Third-party reviews

What we like about Xiaomi Watch S5

  • A charge takes 60 min, which is quick for a watch.
  • Dual-frequency GPS tracks runs and rides closely.
  • The 1500-nit screen is easy to read in direct sun.
  • Blood pressure monitoring is built in.
  • Fall detection is built in.
  • NFC is built in for payments.

What we don't like about Xiaomi Watch S5

  • There is no app store, so no third-party apps can be installed.
  • Notifications can be read but not replied to.
  • The charger uses USB-A and must line up with its pins.
  • At 46 mm wide, it looks large on a slim wrist.
  • Recorded GPS tracks do not always match the real route.

Verdict

Fall detection and blood pressure tracking are uncommon on watches, and they set the Xiaomi Watch S5 apart. The 1500-nit AMOLED screen reads well in direct sun, and the dual-frequency GPS tracks runs and rides closely. It is rated for 14 days, and in tests it lasted more than a week with health tracking on. The stainless steel case feels premium, and the thin bezels keep the large face looking neat. Heart rate matched a chest strap on a bike ride in tests, and it has NFC built in. The trade-off is the closed system: there is no app store, so Spotify and WhatsApp cannot be added, and notifications can be read but not replied to. It suits someone who wants a premium-looking watch with blood pressure and fall tracking, and is happy with built-in apps only.
