Third-party reviews

What we like about Garmin Fenix 9 Pro

  • 18 days on a charge means long gaps between charges.
  • inReach messaging works where there is no mobile signal.
  • The screen, rated at 3000 nits, stays clear in glare.
  • The green torch keeps night vision better than a white light.
  • Storage doubled to 64 GB, which gives room for more maps and routes.
  • The titanium case feels upmarket and sturdy.

What we don't like about Garmin Fenix 9 Pro

  • Outdoor Maps Plus needs a monthly subscription.
  • The 47 mm case weighs 78 g with the strap, which you feel on long days.
  • Only one silicone band comes with the watch.
  • The speaker on the underside is the main design complaint.
  • The cheapest inReach plan allows very few messages.

Verdict

A slim titanium case and satellite messaging set the Garmin Fenix 9 Pro apart. The inReach option lets you send messages and an SOS where there is no mobile signal. The screen reaches 3000 nits, so it stays clear in glare. Battery life is 18 days on a charge and 32 h with GPS on, and 64 GB of storage leaves room for offline maps. At 13.3 mm thick, the body is slim for a watch with this much inside. The titanium case feels upmarket, and the five physical buttons suit daily use better than touch. Satellite messaging and some map extras need a subscription. It suits a solo traveller or mountain guide who needs to stay in touch far from town.
