Third-party reviews

What we like about Google Pixel Watch 5 45mm

  • Charging from 20 to 100 percent takes about 40 min in tests.
  • The 3000 nits screen stays readable in bright light.
  • ECG is built in.
  • Crash detection and fall detection are built in for safety.
  • GPS tracks are clear and accurate on outdoor runs.
  • A readiness score helps you choose between rest and hard training.

What we don't like about Google Pixel Watch 5 45mm

  • The battery is rated at 1 day, so charging is needed most days.
  • There is no multi-sport mode.
  • It does not work with an iPhone.
  • There is no blood pressure monitoring.
  • Health Coach and full sleep monitoring need a monthly subscription.

Verdict

Fast charging is the first thing to like about the Google Pixel Watch 5 45 mm. A full charge takes 60 min, and in tests charging from 20 to 100 percent takes about 40 min. The 3000 nits screen is bright, and the watch sits comfortably on a small wrist. Cellular, fall detection and crash detection are all built in. On outdoor runs, GPS tracks are clear, and heart rate readings are close to a chest strap in tests. The trade-off is what it leaves out: there is no multi-sport mode, and it does not work with an iPhone. Battery is rated at 1 day, and tests show about 2 days of mixed use. It suits Android owners who run or cycle outdoors and want a light watch with a bright screen and quick charging.
