Third-party reviews

What we like about Suunto 7

  • Wear OS brings Google apps and the Play Store to the wrist.
  • Offline maps on the watch help you find the way without a phone.
  • The 1000 nits screen is bright, and Gorilla Glass protects it.
  • NFC allows contactless payments.
  • Swim mode and a 50 m rating cover pool sessions.
  • GPS tracking on runs and rides is accurate.

What we don't like about Suunto 7

  • Battery is the main limit, with GPS mode rated for 12 h.
  • The case is 50 mm across, which is big for smaller wrists.
  • Wireless charging is missing, so you need the cable.
  • Downloaded maps are less complete than the built-in OS maps.
  • The phone app is glitchy and needs internet to work.

Verdict

Google apps and a rugged sports watch share one case in the Suunto 7, a watch for people who want both. Wear OS brings music, contactless payments and the Play Store, and the screen is bright at 1000 nits. Maps are on the watch, and the GPS tracks accurately on runs and rides. The trade-off is battery life. It is rated for 2 days, but in tests it lasted between a day and a half and two days with GPS and smartwatch use, so long trips need a charger in your bag. At 70 g and 15.3 mm thick, it is a bulky watch for a small wrist. It suits someone who wants messages, payments and music on the wrist every day and will charge it often.
