Third-party reviews

What we like about Samsung Galaxy Watch9

  • The 3000 nits screen stays readable in strong sunlight.
  • Blood pressure monitoring is built in.
  • At 34 g it is light enough to wear overnight.
  • Raise to Talk opens Gemini without pressing a button.
  • Dual-frequency GPS copes well with reflections and obstacles.
  • The Fitness Index rates several areas against age and sex norms.

What we don't like about Samsung Galaxy Watch9

  • The battery is rated for 1 day, so charging is frequent.
  • Blood pressure and ECG need a Samsung phone.
  • Blood pressure readings need recalibrating with a cuff every four weeks.
  • It does not work with an iPhone.
  • There is no fall detection and no crash detection.

Verdict

Bright sun is no problem for the Samsung Galaxy Watch9, whose 3000 nits screen stays clear outdoors. At 34 g and 8.6 mm thick, it is light and slim, and it stays comfortable through everyday tasks. Raise to Talk starts the Gemini assistant without a button press, and it responds quickly. Sleep tracking picks up brief wake-ups, and the vitals alert flags changes from your own baseline. Blood pressure and ECG are built in, though both need a Samsung phone to work. The trade-off is battery life: it is rated for 1 day, and about 25 hours in tests with the always-on screen. A full charge takes close to 1.5 hours in tests. It suits someone who wants a bright, light watch with blood pressure and heart data, and who uses a Samsung phone.
