Third-party reviews

What we like about Garmin Fenix 9

  • 16 days of battery life on a charge means long gaps between charges.
  • The screen, rated at 2000 nits, stays readable in bright sun.
  • Sapphire glass is standard, so the screen resists scratches.
  • 100 m water resistance covers swimming and water sports.
  • 64 GB of storage leaves plenty of room for offline maps.
  • Stamina zones show how long you can hold a pace or power.

What we don't like about Garmin Fenix 9

  • The 13.8 mm case is thick and chunky on the wrist.
  • There is little change from the Fenix 8, so an upgrade is hard to justify.
  • The premium price is high for what it adds.
  • Nested menus on the watch and app take time to learn.
  • The watch sometimes lags after a button press.

Verdict

Sturdy hardware is the first thing you notice on the Garmin Fenix 9. The sapphire glass resists scratches, and the screen reaches 2000 nits, so it stays readable in strong sun. It is water resistant to 100 m, and 64 GB of storage leaves plenty of room for offline maps. The watch lasts 16 days on a charge and 30 h with GPS on, enough for a long day in the hills. It records ECG and tracks heart rate, sleep and stress in daily wear. The case is 13.8 mm thick, so it is a chunky watch on the wrist. Reviewers found little change from the Fenix 8, which makes it a hard sell for owners already happy with that model. It suits a buyer who wants a durable watch for mountains and sea.
