Third-party reviews

What we like about Amazfit T-Rex Ultra

  • The battery is rated for 20 days, so a week away needs no charger.
  • Waterproof to 100 m covers swimming and diving.
  • Offline maps with route guidance work without a signal.
  • Dual-frequency GPS helps on runs and hikes.
  • There are 160 sports modes for many kinds of training.
  • It works in cold weather down to -30 °C.

What we don't like about Amazfit T-Rex Ultra

  • At 89 g it is heavy on the wrist all day.
  • At 13.45 mm thick, it is noticeable under a sleeve.
  • There is no NFC, so the watch cannot pay at a till.
  • The glass is standard, not sapphire, and it scratches more easily.
  • The always-on display is hard to read in direct sunlight.

Verdict

A battery rated for 20 days is the first thing people notice about the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra, a rugged sports watch for hikers and swimmers. The steel case has six visible screws on the bezel and back, and it is waterproof to 100 m, so a swim or a dive is no problem. Offline maps with route guidance help on trails with no signal, and dual-frequency GPS is a plus on runs and hikes. There are 160 sports modes and a readiness score to help plan training. In tests the battery lasted about two weeks with heavy training. The downside is size: at 89 g and 13.45 mm thick, it sits high on the wrist and shows under a sleeve. It suits an active buyer who spends long days outdoors.
