Third-party reviews

What we like about Polar Ignite 2

  • Battery lasts 4.5 days, enough for a long trip without a charger.
  • At 20 g it is light enough to wear day and night.
  • The 8.5 mm case stays slim under a jacket sleeve.
  • Built-in GPS records routes on the watch itself.
  • 130 exercise modes cover most outdoor sports.
  • Sleep Plus Stages splits light, deep and REM sleep.

What we don't like about Polar Ignite 2

  • The 1.2 inch screen is small and dim at 300 nits.
  • It is hard to read in direct sunlight.
  • The touchscreen can be unresponsive when sweating or wet.
  • The screen wakes only when you raise your wrist, with no always-on display.
  • There is no blood oxygen monitoring and no gyroscope.

Verdict

Light and slim, the Polar Ignite 2 suits someone who runs, cycles or hikes and wants a watch that is comfortable all day. At 20 g with an 8.5 mm case, it is easy to forget on the wrist. Built-in GPS, 130 exercise modes and a readiness score help you plan training and decide when to rest. Battery life is the strongest point: 4.5 days in normal use, and about 18 hours with GPS in tests, against a rated 20 h. The screen is the trade-off. It is a small 1.2 inch touchscreen at 300 nits, and it is hard to read in direct sunlight. It can miss taps when your hands are wet, and the screen stays dark until you raise your wrist. It suits a buyer who wants a light, comfortable watch for training.
