Third-party reviews

What we like about Fitbit Edge

  • At 17.7 g, it is light enough to wear for sleep.
  • Built-in GPS lets you run without carrying the phone.
  • The battery is rated for 7 days, so charging is rare.
  • ECG and blood pressure monitoring are both built in.
  • A readiness score helps decide how hard to train.
  • Automatic activity detection logs walks and hikes without an app.

What we don't like about Fitbit Edge

  • With GPS on, the battery lasts 10 h, which is short for long runs.
  • The 65 mAh battery is small, and the always-on display cuts its life a lot.
  • There is no NFC, so there is no tap-to-pay.
  • There is no emergency SOS and no fall detection.
  • Software updates have ended, so new features will not arrive.

Verdict

For someone who wants a light tracker for sleep and workouts, the Fitbit Edge is a fair choice. At 17.7 g and 25.56 mm wide, it is easy to wear overnight. The band is comfortable once adjusted, and the always-on display is subtle. The battery is rated at 7 days, and tests show about a week with the always-on display off. Built-in GPS records runs and rides without the phone. Sleep and readiness scores appear within minutes of waking. The trade-off is what it leaves out: there is no NFC for tap-to-pay, no emergency SOS and no maps. Full charging takes about 90 min, so it is off the wrist for a while. It suits buyers who care more about comfort and battery than smart features.
