Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Panasonic LUMIX DC TZ99

  • Powerful 30x optical zoom (24-720mm) that far exceeds most smartphones
  • Highly pocketable and lightweight design ideal for travel and concerts
  • Effective 5-axis hybrid optical image stabilization for steady long-range shots
  • Modern USB-C charging and data transfer
  • Versatile 180-degree tilting touchscreen for selfies and vlogging
  • Supports RAW format for more flexible post-processing

What we don't like about Panasonic LUMIX DC TZ99

  • Small 1/2.3-inch sensor leads to poor low-light performance and digital noise
  • Removal of the electronic viewfinder (EVF) found in its predecessor
  • Significant 4K video crop (approx. 1.45x) and lack of a dedicated microphone input
  • Limited dynamic range and tendency for images to look over-sharpened or 'waxy'
  • High price point relative to the performance offered by modern smartphones or used mirrorless cameras
  • Slow lens aperture (f/3.3-6.4) which further limits performance in dim lighting

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix DC-TZ99 is a pocketable travel superzoom featuring a 20.3MP 1/2.3-inch MOS sensor and a powerful 30x Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens (24-720mm equivalent) with 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S. for steady shots. It offers 4K video at 30p, high-speed recording up to 240fps at VGA resolution, and versatile 4K PHOTO modes like Post Focus and Focus Stacking. Modern upgrades include a sharp 3.0-inch 1,840k-dot tiltable touchscreen for selfies, USB-C charging, and Bluetooth 5.0 for quick transfers via a dedicated 'Send Image' button. Main pros are its massive focal range in a compact 322g body, responsive autofocus using Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology, and the inclusion of full manual controls and RAW support. However, its main cons include poor low-light performance due to the small sensor size, a significant 1.5x crop during 4K video recording, and the removal of the electronic viewfinder found in its predecessor.
