What we like about Panasonic DMC FZ200K

  • Constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire 25-600mm zoom range allows for better low-light performance and faster shutter speeds
  • Fast and reliable autofocus system, especially effective for sports and wildlife photography
  • Excellent high-speed burst mode capable of shooting up to 12 frames per second at full resolution
  • Highly effective 'Power O.I.S.' optical image stabilization that keeps handheld shots steady even at long focal lengths
  • High-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 1.3 million dots and a fully articulating 3-inch LCD monitor
  • Versatile shooting options including RAW capture and full manual controls for both stills and video
  • Lightweight and ergonomic body that is comfortable for long shooting sessions compared to heavy DSLRs

What we don't like about Panasonic DMC FZ200K

  • Small 1/2.3-inch sensor leads to noticeable image noise, even at lower ISO settings, and limited dynamic range
  • No built-in eye sensor to automatically switch between the electronic viewfinder and the LCD screen
  • Image quality drops significantly at high ISO values (above ISO 800-1600), often appearing grainy or 'mushy'
  • The SD card and battery compartment are inaccessible when the camera is mounted on most tripods
  • LCD screen resolution (460k dots) is lower than some competitors and can be difficult to view in direct sunlight
  • Menu systems and advanced settings can be complex and confusing for beginners

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 is a high-end bridge camera defined by its Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 24x optical zoom lens, which maintains a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture across its entire 25–600mm equivalent focal range. It features a 12.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch High Sensitivity MOS sensor, Power O.I.S. image stabilization, and a 1.31-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF). Main pros include its exceptional low-light performance at full zoom, fast 12 fps continuous shooting, 1080/60p Full HD video recording, and a fully articulated 3-inch LCD screen. However, notable cons include a relatively high launch price for its class, the lack of a proximity sensor for the EVF, and some noise at higher ISO settings due to the small sensor size.
