What we like about Fujifilm FinePix SL300

  • Versatile 30x optical zoom lens suitable for distance shots
  • Good value for money as an affordable bridge camera
  • Comfortable handling with a rubberised DSLR-like grip
  • Impressive Super Macro mode for close-ups as near as 2cm
  • Solid battery life from the lithium-ion power pack
  • Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) and dual zoom controls for convenience

What we don't like about Fujifilm FinePix SL300

  • Inconsistent image quality with issues in white balance and exposure
  • Poor performance in low light (significant noise at ISO 800 and above)
  • Video recording is limited to 720p HD instead of Full HD
  • Build quality feels somewhat plasticky and budget-oriented
  • Lack of RAW shooting capability for advanced editing
  • Noticeable barrel distortion when shooting subjects up close

Verdict

The Fujifilm FinePix SL300 is a bridge-style digital camera featuring a 14-megapixel CCD sensor and a powerful 30x Fujinon optical zoom lens with a 24-720mm equivalent focal range. Its main characteristics include sensor-shift image stabilisation, a 3.0-inch 460k-dot LCD screen, an electronic viewfinder, and 720p HD video recording capability. Key pros are its impressive macro capabilities starting at just 2cm, a built-in TTL hot shoe for external flash units, and the inclusion of full manual (PASM) controls for creative flexibility. However, its main cons include inconsistent automatic white balance, noticeable image noise at higher ISO settings, and a lack of RAW image support.
