Polar Vantage V3 is not perfect, but a clear step up from its predecessor and a strong all-round performer for runners.

Verdict
Polar Vantage V3 is back in the race, but unstable heart rate and an incomplete launch make the price hard to justify.

What we like about Polar Vantage V3

  • Vibrant and high-resolution 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that is clear in most lighting conditions.
  • Highly accurate dual-frequency (L1/L5) GPS tracking that rivals top competitors.
  • Comprehensive health and recovery metrics, including ECG, blood oxygen (SpO2), and skin temperature sensors.
  • Lightweight and stylish aerospace-grade aluminium design that remains comfortable for daily wear.
  • Deep sleep-tracking analysis, such as Nightly Recharge and SleepWise, often cited as more reliable than rival brands.
  • Snappy and responsive user interface thanks to a significantly faster processor compared to previous models.

What we don't like about Polar Vantage V3

  • Limited smartwatch features, lacking essential functions like NFC contactless payments and offline music storage.
  • Inconsistent 'raise-to-wake' gesture and screen timeout issues that often require exaggerated wrist movements.
  • Proprietary charging cable that is noted for being short and having a somewhat insecure magnetic attachment.
  • Smartphone connectivity and syncing issues, with some users reporting frequent disconnections from the Polar Flow app.
  • Offline mapping requires a cumbersome manual download process via a PC/web interface rather than through the mobile app.
  • Downgraded water resistance (50m) compared to the 100m rating of its predecessor, the Vantage V2.

Verdict

The Polar Vantage V3 is a premium multisport watch featuring a vibrant 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen (454 x 454 resolution) protected by curved Gorilla Glass 3 and housed in a 47mm aerospace aluminum case. Powered by a 275 MHz CPU—129% faster than its predecessor—and the Elixir™ biosensing suite, it delivers 32GB of storage for offline topographic maps, dual-frequency GPS for pinpoint accuracy, and advanced health metrics including wrist-based ECG, SpO2, and overnight skin temperature tracking. Key advantages include an impressive battery life of up to 53 hours in high-accuracy training mode (or 8 days in smartwatch mode), a highly responsive interface, and standard 22mm interchangeable straps. However, notable drawbacks include a lack of contactless payments and native offline music storage, a reduced water resistance rating of 50m compared to the V2's 100m, and occasional reports of inconsistent heart rate readings during high-intensity exercise.
