What we like about Huawei Watch 2

  • Strong fitness tracking with a built-in GPS and accurate heart rate monitoring
  • Above-average battery life compared to other Wear OS devices, lasting up to 2 days
  • Highly functional feature set including NFC for contactless payments and 4G connectivity options
  • Lightweight and comfortable design suitable for workouts
  • High-quality, sharp AMOLED display that remains readable in various lighting

What we don't like about Huawei Watch 2

  • Small 1.2-inch screen can make navigating complex apps and using the on-screen keyboard difficult
  • The sporty design with a plastic strap can feel 'cheap' or 'chintzy' compared to premium rivals
  • Software experience on Wear OS 2.0 is often described as clunky, slow, or unintuitive
  • Lack of a rotating crown or bezel for physical navigation makes the interface more a 'chore' to use
  • GPS can be prone to signal drop-outs and slow triangulation when used without a smartphone

Verdict

The Huawei Watch 2 is a performance-oriented smartwatch featuring a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display with a 390x390 resolution, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and 768MB of RAM. It includes 4GB of internal storage, built-in GPS, an optical heart rate sensor, and NFC for contactless payments, all protected by an IP68-rated housing and a hard ceramic bezel. Its main strengths include its comprehensive fitness tracking with continuous heart rate monitoring, standalone connectivity in the 4G model, and a 'Watch Mode' that can extend basic battery life significantly. However, users frequently cite its chunky and bulky aesthetic, a screen size that feels small due to the thick bezel, and occasional software lag as notable drawbacks.
