What we like about Honor Watch 5

  • Outstanding battery life, often lasting 10-14 days on a single charge.
  • High-quality metallic build that is lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear.
  • Large, vibrant 1.85-inch AMOLED display with good outdoor readability.
  • Improved GPS accuracy compared to previous generations.
  • Responsive user interface with smooth animations and a tactile rotating crown.
  • Comprehensive health monitoring features, including the 'Health Scan' one-tap report.

What we don't like about Honor Watch 5

  • Limited notification functionality, such as inability to view full emails or images.
  • Lack of third-party app support and mobile payment options.
  • Software bugs reported, specifically regarding RCS messages not showing up.
  • Auto-brightness can be slow to react or inconsistent in some environments.
  • Proprietary strap mechanism on most models limits the use of standard watch bands.
  • Sleep tracking accuracy is sometimes described as 'hit and miss' by users.

Verdict

The Honor Watch 5 is a lightweight 35g smartwatch featuring a 1.85-inch AMOLED display with a 450 x 390 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 1,000 nits peak brightness. Encased in a 6-series aluminium alloy frame with a rotating CNC crown, it includes a 480mAh silicon-carbon battery offering up to 15 days of life, alongside 5ATM and IP68 water resistance. Key advantages include improved GPS accuracy via Honor AccuTrack, comprehensive health monitoring (SpO2, heart rate, and sleep), and 4GB of onboard storage for music. However, it lacks third-party app support, does not offer contactless payments or wireless charging, and some users have noted that its auto-brightness and notification systems can be inconsistent.
