What we like about Apple Watch Series 6 44mm Cellular

  • Bright always-on display is 2.5x brighter than previous models, making it much easier to read outdoors.
  • Cellular connectivity allows for calls, texts, and music streaming without needing an iPhone nearby.
  • Comprehensive health tracking features, including on-demand Blood Oxygen (SpO2) and ECG apps.
  • Fast and fluid performance powered by the S6 chip, which is 20% faster than the Series 5.
  • Improved charging speeds, reaching 80% in about an hour and 100% in 90 minutes.
  • Always-on altimeter provides real-time elevation tracking, ideal for hiking and outdoor activities.
  • Extensive third-party app support and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem.

What we don't like about Apple Watch Series 6 44mm Cellular

  • Battery life remains limited to about 18–24 hours, typically requiring daily charging.
  • Sleep tracking is considered basic compared to competitors, lacking deep insights into sleep stages like REM.
  • High price point, especially for the cellular and premium casing (Stainless Steel/Titanium) models.
  • Does not include a USB power adapter in the box, and still uses a USB-A charging cable rather than USB-C.
  • Incremental upgrade for existing Series 5 or Series 4 owners as many features are similar.
  • Aluminum models can be prone to screen and case scratches if not used with a protector.

Verdict

The Apple Watch Series 6 44mm Cellular features a 1.78-inch Always-On Retina LTPO OLED display with 448 x 368 resolution and 1,000 nits brightness, powered by the S6 SiP 64-bit dual-core processor for up to 20% faster performance than its predecessor. Its key health characteristics include a blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor, an electrical heart sensor (ECG), a third-generation optical heart sensor, and an always-on altimeter for real-time elevation tracking. The cellular model supports standalone LTE/UMTS connectivity via eSIM, allowing for calls, messaging, and music streaming without an iPhone nearby. Main pros include a significantly brighter outdoor display, fast charging that reaches 100% in roughly 90 minutes, and a comprehensive suite of safety features like fall detection and Emergency SOS. Primary cons are its relatively short 18-hour battery life, which often necessitates daily charging, and the lack of a major upgrade for users already owning a Series 5.
