What we like about Apple Watch Series 6 44mm

  • Measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) on demand and in the background
  • Brighter always-on Retina display, especially noticeable in outdoor ambient mode
  • Always-on altimeter provides real-time elevation tracking
  • Fast S6 chip offers snappy performance and smooth app operation
  • Excellent selection of third-party apps and tight integration with the iOS ecosystem
  • Faster charging speeds compared to previous generations (0-100% in ~90 minutes)
  • Comfortable design with a wide variety of customisable bands like the Solo Loop

What we don't like about Apple Watch Series 6 44mm

  • Battery life is still limited to roughly 18-24 hours, requiring near-daily charging
  • Sleep tracking features are considered basic compared to competitors like Fitbit
  • Exclusive to iPhone users; no compatibility with Android devices
  • Minor upgrade for owners of the Series 5 or Series 4
  • High price point, with some users finding the 44mm size too bulky for smaller wrists
  • No wall power adapter included in the box for environmental reasons
  • Touchscreen can be less responsive when wet or while wearing gloves

Verdict

The Apple Watch Series 6 44mm features a 1.78-inch Always-On Retina LTPO OLED display with 1,000 nits brightness and a resolution of 448x368 pixels, housed in a water-resistant (up to 50m) case available in aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium. Powered by the dual-core S6 SiP, which is up to 20% faster than the previous generation, it includes 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and introduces a blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor alongside an ECG app and an always-on altimeter. Key pros include its faster performance, a significantly brighter display in ambient mode, and faster charging capabilities that reach 80% in roughly one hour. However, it is primarily limited by an estimated 18-hour battery life that often necessitates daily charging and a basic sleep tracking implementation compared to competitors.
