What we like about ZTE Nubia Flip 2 5G (8GB + 256GB)

  • Affordable price point for a foldable phone.
  • Stylish, premium-feeling design with metal frame and etched glass.
  • Large internal 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
  • Decent-sized and functional 3-inch circular external AMOLED display for notifications and controls.
  • Good battery life that can last all day with a 4310/4325mAh capacity.
  • Fast 33W wired charging (50% in under 20 minutes).
  • Main 50MP camera takes decent photos in good lighting conditions.
  • Camera can be used for selfies and hands-free shots using the external screen and a partially folded position.
  • Solid-feeling and durable hinge that can stay suspended at various angles.
  • Responsive side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
  • Good performance for daily use and multitasking.

What we don't like about ZTE Nubia Flip 2 5G (8GB + 256GB)

  • Average camera performance, struggling in low light or with movement; lacks an ultra-wide or telephoto lens.
  • Outdated software (launched with Android 13) and poor track record for software updates.
  • Performance can be slightly slow to open apps or games, and the phone can get hot during intense use.
  • Lack of an official IP rating for water or dust resistance.
  • No wireless charging support.
  • External screen has limited functionality and struggles with brightness in direct sunlight.
  • Presence of bloatware/unwanted apps in the software.
  • Can be considered heavy and thick compared to some non-folding alternatives.

Verdict

The ZTE Nubia Flip 2 (8GB + 256GB) is a mid-range foldable smartphone featuring a 6.9-inch 120Hz AMOLED main display (2790 x 1188) and a significantly upgraded 3-inch rectangular external AMOLED screen for notifications and app shortcuts. Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X 5G chipset, it includes a 50MP main camera with a 2MP depth sensor and an improved 32MP internal selfie camera. Main pros include its highly competitive pricing for a foldable, a larger and more functional cover display than its predecessor, and a generous 4,325mAh battery with 33W fast charging. However, notable cons include a visible screen crease, lack of expandable storage via microSD, and limited IPX2/IP4X resistance that offers only basic protection against minor splashes and dust.
