What we like about Xiaomi Redmi A5 4G (6GB + 128GB)

  • Extremely affordable price and considered great value for money.
  • Large display (6.88 inches), with a 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate, providing smooth scrolling and good viewing for media consumption.
  • Excellent battery life, with a large 5200mAh capacity that can last a full day of continuous use or more for light users.
  • Decent performance for basic, everyday tasks and light multitasking without significant lag.
  • Clean user experience with Android 15 (Go Edition) and minimal pre-installed bloatware.
  • Attractive and sleek design with a matte plastic finish that looks more expensive than it is and offers a good grip.
  • Features useful inclusions such as a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C, and dual SIM support with expandable storage.
  • Camera performs well in good daylight conditions, capturing detailed shots.
  • Durable build quality for a budget phone, with some splash and dust resistance.
  • Audio quality is good for voice calls and dialogue, and the speaker can be loud enough for indoor use.

What we don't like about Xiaomi Redmi A5 4G (6GB + 128GB)

  • Camera performance is basic, especially in low light or night conditions, and struggles with zoom quality.
  • Only HD+ display resolution, not Full HD, with some reviewers noting the display is dim or lacks sharpness/contrast in bright sunlight.
  • Limited performance for intensive gaming and heavy multitasking, with potential slowdowns on variants with less RAM.
  • Plastic build may feel less premium to some users.
  • Lacks support for 5G mobile networks.
  • Charging speed is limited (15W/18W) and lacks support for faster charging technologies compared to some competitors.
  • Uses slower eMMC 5.1 storage type.
  • Single bottom-firing speaker means no stereo sound and minimal bass.
  • Android Go edition may lack some advanced features found in full Android versions, and some specific apps may not be compatible.
  • Some users reported occasional software glitches or too many advertisements in the interface.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi A5 4G is a budget-friendly smartphone (note: the 6GB RAM version is generally not available; the top variant is 4GB RAM + 128GB storage) featuring a large 6.88-inch HD+ IPS display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate for smooth visuals and a durable, sleek plastic design with an IP52 splash-proof rating. It is powered by a Unisoc T7250 octa-core processor and runs Android 15 Go Edition, with a major pro being its massive 5,200mAh battery that offers excellent endurance for a full day or two of light to moderate use. Security is handled by a responsive side-mounted fingerprint sensor and AI face unlock, and it sports a 32MP AI main camera and 8MP front camera, capable of 1080p video recording. Cons include the 720p display resolution, which is not as sharp as Full HD options, basic camera performance (especially in low light), the slower 15W charging speed that takes over two hours to fully charge, and the potential for the phone to slow down with heavy multitasking or intensive gaming due to its entry-level processor and stripped-down Android Go operating system.
