What we like about Sony SLT-A68

  • Excellent 79-point autofocus system (4D focus) with fast, accurate tracking
  • High-resolution 24.2 MP APS-C sensor producing great image detail and color
  • In-body image stabilization (SteadyShot INSIDE) works with all A-mount lenses
  • Good high-ISO performance and dynamic range
  • Tilting LCD screen and high-contrast OLED viewfinder
  • Excellent value for money, offering mid-range features at an entry-level price

What we don't like about Sony SLT-A68

  • Build quality feels somewhat plasticky and budget-oriented
  • Lower resolution and smaller rear LCD screen compared to competitors
  • Buffer fills quickly during high-speed shooting, limiting burst performance
  • Translucent mirror technology can make the EVF appear darker in low light
  • A-mount system is discontinued by Sony

Verdict

The Sony SLT-A68 is an A-mount interchangeable lens camera featuring a 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and Sony’s unique Translucent Mirror Technology, which enables high-speed 4D Focus with 79 phase-detection points. It stands out for its 8 fps continuous shooting, built-in SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilisation, and an OLED Tru-Finder EVF, offering excellent tracking for moving subjects and compatibility with legacy Minolta lenses. However, it is limited by a plastic-heavy build quality, a relatively low-resolution 2.7-inch tilting LCD screen, and the lack of 4K video capabilities.
