What we like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC L10

  • High-quality articulating screen (180° swing and tilt) for versatile shooting angles.
  • Excellent ergonomics with a well-designed grip and intuitive control interface.
  • High-quality Leica kit lens (14-50mm) with effective optical image stabilization.
  • Advanced Live View mode featuring contrast-detect autofocus and face detection.
  • Effective supersonic wave filter for dust removal from the sensor.
  • Excellent image resolution and detail, especially when shooting in RAW.

What we don't like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC L10

  • Small and somewhat dim optical viewfinder compared to competitors.
  • Poor continuous shooting performance, limited to a very small RAW buffer (3 shots).
  • Slow data transfer speeds due to the use of 'Full Speed' USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 speeds).
  • Battery life drops significantly when using Live View extensively.
  • Contrast-detect autofocus in Live View is only compatible with specific lenses.
  • Default JPEG processing can be soft, often requiring post-processing or RAW shooting for best results.

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 is a Four Thirds system DSLR featuring a 10.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and the Venus Engine III processor. It was notable for being the first DSLR to offer a fully articulating 2.5-inch LCD screen with 270-degree rotation, paired with a hybrid autofocus system that supports contrast-detect AF and face detection in Live View mode. The camera typically comes with a high-quality, optically stabilized Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-50mm f/3.8-5.6 lens and includes a Supersonic Wave Filter for effective sensor dust reduction. While it excels with its versatile swivel screen, excellent ergonomic controls, and sharp RAW image performance, it is limited by a maximum ISO of 1600, significant image noise at higher sensitivities, a basic 3-point phase-detection AF system through the viewfinder, and a relatively slow 3fps burst rate.
