What we like about Nikon COOLPIX P900

  • Unmatched 83x optical zoom range (24-2000mm equivalent)
  • Excellent image stabilization (Dual Detect Optical VR)
  • Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS for easy sharing and geotagging
  • Fully articulating vari-angle LCD screen
  • Fast autofocus speeds in good lighting conditions
  • Great value for its price point as a bridge camera
  • User-friendly controls and intuitive navigation

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX P900

  • No support for RAW image capture
  • Autofocus struggles in low light or low contrast situations
  • Noticeable loss of sharpness and detail at maximum zoom
  • Relatively heavy and bulky compared to other compact bridge cameras
  • Lack of a hot shoe and external microphone jack
  • Small 1/2.3-inch sensor limits performance at higher ISOs
  • Slow buffer processing during burst shooting

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a bridge camera featuring a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS sensor and an 83x optical zoom NIKKOR ED glass lens that covers a 24–2000mm equivalent focal length range with a maximum aperture of f/2.8–6.5. Key advantages include its incredible telephoto reach, a highly effective 5-stop Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction system, a 3-inch fully articulating 921k-dot LCD, a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, a 7 fps continuous burst rate, and built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS. However, its downsides include a relatively bulky design weighing 899 grams, a lack of RAW image support, 1080p video recording capped at 60 fps without 4K capabilities, and noticeable noise and softened detail at higher ISO settings.
