What we like about Sony Cyber-shot DSC HX200V

  • Exceptional and versatile 30x optical zoom, ideal for landscapes and distant details.
  • Excellent image stabilization, which reduces blurring in high zoom shots.
  • Fast and precise autofocus, capable of following moving subjects.
  • Presence of integrated GPS and good quality electronic viewfinder.
  • Smooth and clear Full HD video modes.

What we don't like about Sony Cyber-shot DSC HX200V

  • Lack of RAW format, which limits the possibilities of professional post-production.
  • Presence of noise and loss of fine details at high ISO or at maximum zoom, due to excessive noise reduction.
  • Limited battery life, offering approximately 450 shots per charge.
  • Camera body quite large and heavy compared to other cameras in the same category.
  • No wireless connectivity.

Verdict

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V is a high-end bridge camera featuring an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and a powerful 30x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens (27-810mm equivalent). It is characterized by its high-speed performance, offering 10fps burst shooting and rapid autofocus, alongside a tilting 3-inch 921k-dot LCD screen and a built-in electronic viewfinder. Main pros include its versatile zoom range, effective Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation, integrated GPS with a compass for geotagging, and the ability to record Full HD 1080/60p video. Notable cons are the absence of RAW image support, visible smudging of fine details due to aggressive noise reduction even at low ISO settings, and the lack of manual controls during movie recording.
