Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Nikon COOLPIX L28

  • Extremely affordable price point
  • Uses standard AA batteries, making replacements easy to find while traveling
  • Compact and lightweight design, ideal for carrying in a pocket or purse
  • Simple, intuitive interface with an 'Easy Auto Mode' for beginners
  • Large 3.0-inch LCD screen for easy viewing
  • Good color reproduction in well-lit conditions

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX L28

  • Slow overall performance, especially long processing times between shots
  • Poor low-light performance with noticeable grain and noise
  • Lack of manual controls, including the inability to manually set ISO
  • Minimum focusing distance of 10cm makes close-up macro shots difficult
  • Limited internal memory (27MB) requires an SD card almost immediately
  • Fragile battery compartment latch reported by some users

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix L28 is a user-friendly entry-level compact camera featuring a 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor and a 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens with a 26-130mm focal range. Notable for its portability, it weighs approximately 164g and includes a 3.0-inch 230k-dot LCD screen, 720p HD video recording capability, and an Easy Auto Mode for simplified shooting. Its main advantages are its high resolution for its class, lightweight slim design, and the convenience of being powered by two standard AA batteries. However, it suffers from slow shot-to-shot performance, lacks manual ISO and exposure controls, and omits optical image stabilisation, relying instead on electronic motion blur reduction.
