Third-party reviews

What we like about Suunto Race 2

  • 18 days of battery life covers a long trip without a charger.
  • 55 h of GPS tracking handles an ultramarathon.
  • The screen stays readable in strong summer sun at 2000 nits.
  • Dual-frequency GPS stays accurate near forests and in narrow canyons.
  • Rated for 100 m of water, so swimming and rain are no problem.
  • VO2 max and training load estimates help track fitness over time.

What we don't like about Suunto Race 2

  • At 76 g it is noticeable on the wrist during long days.
  • At 49 mm across, the case is wide for small wrists.
  • There is no ECG, and no fall or crash detection.
  • No music storage, so music needs the phone nearby.
  • Eco GPS mode can turn erratic in dense forest.

Verdict

Eighteen days of battery life is the first reason to look at the Suunto Race 2. It is aimed at runners, triathletes and hikers who want to train hard and forget the charger. 55 h of GPS tracking means a long ultramarathon or a full day on the trail does not drain it. The screen reaches 2000 nits and stays readable in strong summer sun. Dual-frequency GPS helps near forests and narrow canyons, and the watch is rated for 100 m of water. The trade-off is size and weight: at 76 g and 49 mm across, it sits big on a small wrist. It also has no music storage, so runs without a phone need a plan. It suits an athlete who logs many hours outdoors and wants a long-lasting, easy-to-read watch with solid training data.
