What we like about Motorola Edge 50 Neo (12GB + 256GB)

  • Excellent value for money and a very competitive price point for its features.
  • Vibrant, sharp, and bright 6.4-inch pOLED display (some variants have LTPO) with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
  • Solid battery life that easily lasts a full day, and for some users up to two days with lighter use.
  • Very fast 68W wired charging (charger included in the box) and 15W wireless charging support, which is rare for the price range.
  • Pleasing and comfortable design, often with vegan leather finishes in unique Pantone colors, that feels light and sturdy in hand.
  • Cameras perform well for the price, producing sharp and detailed daytime photos, and the inclusion of a 3x telephoto lens is a major plus over competitors.
  • Near-stock Android experience (Android 14) with minimal bloatware and useful Motorola gestures (e.g., chop to turn on the flashlight).
  • Impressive durability, including IP68 dust and water resistance and military-spec compliance (MIL-STD 810H).
  • Promises of five OS upgrades and five years of security updates are excellent for a mid-range phone.
  • Comes with a color-matched protective case in the box.

What we don't like about Motorola Edge 50 Neo (12GB + 256GB)

  • Performance can be an issue, with occasional lag, especially in demanding games like Genshin Impact or during heavy multitasking.
  • Built-in speakers are considered poor, often sounding tinny and lacking in bass, particularly at higher volumes.
  • Camera app can be slow, sometimes freezing or taking time for image processing after a shot.
  • Low-light and ultra-wide camera performance is only decent and can result in soft or over-sharpened, artificial-looking images.
  • The in-display fingerprint sensor is often slow and temperamental, struggling with reliability.
  • Comes with some pre-installed third-party bloatware apps like Temu or games.
  • Lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack and does not support expandable storage via microSD card.
  • The phone can heat up, especially outdoors in the sun or during intensive use.
  • Actual software updates may be delayed or inconsistent across different regions despite the promised long-term support.

Verdict

The Motorola Edge 50 Neo (12GB + 256GB model) is a compact, feature-packed mid-range 5G smartphone running Android 14, known for its excellent 6.4-inch pOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3000 nits peak brightness. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, offering sufficient speed for daily tasks. A key selling point is its versatile rear triple-camera system, which includes a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom—a rarity at this price point. The device boasts impressive durability with an IP68 water resistance rating and MIL-STD-810H military standard compliance, along with a solid 4310mAh battery that supports 68W wired and 15W wireless charging. However, performance can be a bit sluggish under demanding gaming loads, the built-in speakers are considered poor, and some users report issues with pre-installed software and inconsistent camera processing in certain conditions.
