What it is
Average grade from independent test sites, magazines and video reviewers, 1–10.
How we count it
Grades: Each review's own score is converted to 1–10; without one, we grade the review ourselves. Big test sites count more, short reviews half as much as full tests. A video review counts half.
Score: The average grade is 80% of the review mark; the number of reviews is the other 20% (1 review = 5, the typical number in this category = 8, the most-reviewed model = 10).
Enough data: With few reviews, the average grade is pulled toward the typical grade of this category. No reviews yet: 7.2 for now.

What we like about Intel Core i9-12900F

  • Sixteen cores and 24 threads handle many programs at once.
  • A Geekbench 6 single-core score of 2556 makes everyday tasks feel quick.
  • A cooler is included, so one less part needs buying.
  • DDR4 and DDR5 support gives more choice in memory.
  • PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 lanes suit newer graphics cards and fast storage.
  • A 30 MB L3 cache keeps much data close to the cores.

What we don't like about Intel Core i9-12900F

  • No integrated graphics, so a graphics card is required.
  • Boost power peaks at 202 W, far above the 65 W base.
  • The chip is not unlocked, so the clock cannot be raised by hand.
  • A mix of fast and efficient cores means some tasks land on slower ones.

Verdict

Sixteen cores, split into eight fast ones and eight efficient ones, let the Intel Core i9-12900F handle a lot at once. Its single-core Geekbench 6 score of 2556 is a real strength, and the 5.1 GHz boost helps everyday work feel quick. The chip uses Intel 7 manufacturing and 30 MB of L3 cache, so it keeps lots of data close at hand. It supports DDR4 or DDR5 memory up to 4800 MHz, so you can pick the memory type your board offers. The base power of 65 W is modest, but boost power peaks at 202 W. Without integrated graphics, a graphics card is a must, and the multiplier is locked. It suits someone who runs many programs at once and would rather not buy a cooler.
