What we like about Poco M5s (4GB + 128GB)

  • Bright and vivid AMOLED display with peak brightness up to 1100 nits, excellent for outdoor use
  • Impressive battery life from the 5,000mAh cell, often lasting up to two days with moderate usage
  • Support for 33W fast charging, significantly faster than the standard Poco M5
  • Feature-rich including stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC, and an IR blaster
  • Lightweight and ergonomic design that feels more premium than its price suggests
  • Flicker-free display (low PWM) which is easier on the eyes for sensitive users
  • Capable of 4K video recording, which is rare for entry-level budget phones

What we don't like about Poco M5s (4GB + 128GB)

  • Standard 60Hz refresh rate display, whereas many competitors offer 90Hz or 120Hz
  • Lack of 5G connectivity as it uses the older 4G-only Helio G95 chipset
  • Camera performance is inconsistent, with oversharpening and poor low-light results
  • Noticeable heating issues during intensive gaming sessions due to the 12nm architecture
  • Software experience marred by pre-installed bloatware and occasional in-UI ads
  • Essentially a rebrand of the older Redmi Note 10S, offering little hardware innovation
  • No optical image stabilization (OIS), leading to shaky videos at 4K resolution

Verdict

The Xiaomi Poco M5s (4GB + 128GB) is an affordable smartphone focused on multimedia consumption, featuring a vibrant 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display and powered by the capable MediaTek Helio G95 processor for smooth daily use and casual gaming. Its primary advantage is a versatile 64MP quad-camera system, which delivers sharp photos, along with a robust 5,000mAh battery that provides excellent endurance. A notable drawback, however, is the lack of 5G connectivity and the use of the older Gorilla Glass 3 for screen protection.
