Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC Review | 93 Data compared

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC is a premium pair of wireless headphones retailing at £359 that competes directly with flagship models from Sony and Bose. Weighing 280 grams, the headphones boast an excellent build quality utilizing high-quality plastics, real leather, and ample cushioning that ensures long-term wearing comfort. Its standout features include an impressive battery life—reaching up to 45 hours with ANC off and 24.5 hours with active noise cancelling—alongside highly intuitive touch and button controls that manage track skipping, volume, and two levels of noise cancellation. Sound performance is exceptionally well-balanced across all music genres, delivering clear highs, rich mids, deep punchy bass, and immersive instrumental separation. The listening experience can be further optimized via a custom audio profile created through the companion MIY app hearing test. Despite these stellar attributes, the reviewer noted a few specific design drawbacks. The primary structural downside involves the included USB-C and 3.5mm cables, which feel generic and fail to match the premium quality of the headphones and the hard carrying case. Additionally, the internal earcup light system designed to show battery and pairing...

The beyerdynamic LAGOON ANC Explorer ($399) is a premium, wireless, over-ear headphone designed for the modern consumer who values a mix of top-tier build quality and travel-friendly features. The reviewer heavily praises the headphone's "preposterously comfortable" design, highlighting the buttery smooth ear cup swivels and moisture-resistant artificial leather pads that allowed for continuous wear on a cross-country flight. Additional major pros include a massive 45-hour battery life, a fast and reliable Bluetooth chipset, a highly intuitive right ear cup gesture touchpad, and a dead-silent amplifier with zero background hiss. Most notably, its active noise canceling (ANC) is hailed as an engineering feat because it eliminates ambient cabin noise and low hums without degrading or altering the music's original sound signature. On the downside, the headphone suffers from a frustrating auto-pause feature; the internal gyro sensor frequently triggers and halts the music when the user merely leans over to tie shoes or reach into a backpack. Another annoyance is the chatty voice prompt that announces "AptX enabled" and cuts off the first four seconds of audio every time media begins playing....

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones deliver an entertaining, balanced, and analytical sound profile with exceptional detail, featuring a neutral tonal balance, wide soundstage, and 24.5-hour battery life. They boast a modern aesthetic with intuitive touch controls, though their plastic-heavy build feels less premium than rivals. Key cons include subpar active noise cancellation (ANC) compared to market leaders and a lack of dynamic high-frequency "sparkle". While a solid, musical choice for audio quality, the unique, internal Light Guide System (LGS) is considered a gimmick.

The StereoNET review of the Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones highlights a successful entry into the noise-cancelling market, praising the detailed, warm sound signature and effective, multi-frequency ANC. Key advantages include intuitive touch controls, a high-quality microphone for calls, and exceptional battery life. Conversely, the headphones lack an ambient transparency mode, which can lead to excessive isolation, and some users may find the strong ANC disorienting during phone calls. Despite these drawbacks, the review recommends the headphones for their superior acoustic performance and build quality.

The beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC wireless headphones deliver an exceptional listening experience highlighted by superb sound clarity, vibrant mid-ranges, and bright high-ends that make acoustic performances feel incredibly intimate. They anchor this pristine audio with well-defined, resonant bass, and users can further calibrate the sound profile to their specific hearing using a specialized hearing test within the companion MIY app. On the downside, the bass lacks the powerful punch required to drive heavy, bass-centric music genres. Furthermore, despite a retail list price of $299, this specific model was officially discontinued as of 2022. While highly portable at 9.9 ounces and equipped with a protective semi-hard carrying case, the headphones present several physical and functional limitations. Their active noise cancellation is respectable against low-frequency airplane engines but struggles significantly with unpredictable, high-pitched sounds like background chatter, lagging behind top-tier industry competitors from Bose and Sony. Ergonomically, the earcups are small, shallow, and firmly cushioned, making them perfectly comfortable for smaller ears but prone to creating painful hot spots for users with larger ears. Finally, the user experience is hindered by a finicky,...

The Major HiFi review of the Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC highlights the headphones' exceptional soundstage, describing it as perhaps the best on a closed-back wireless model with precise instrument separation. Key pros include a detailed, powerful low-end and a comfortable, premium design featuring soft memory foam. However, the review points out that the active noise cancellation (ANC) is a weak point, failing to match top competitors in blocking environmental noise. Additionally, the Light Guide System, designed for status indication, is deemed more of a gimmick than a functional, essential feature.

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones deliver an accomplished, winningly neutral sound wrapped in a sturdy and portable over-ear design. Built with high-quality plastics, aluminum, and comfortable faux leather, these lightweight 283g headphones feature an effective custom audio equalization process through the MIY companion app and responsive, well-judged accelerometers. While they offer excellent audio-to-video syncing via aptX Low Latency and detailed, agile low frequencies, their active noise-cancellation (ANC) is a mixed bag. The first ANC level provides helpful isolation, but the stronger second level introduces a noticeable background hiss, an uncomfortable cabin-pressure sensation, and narrows the soundstage. A major drawback of the headphones is the "Light Guide System," a daft and gimmicky internal earcup illumination system that feels entirely useless given the built-in voice prompts. In terms of performance, the sound is highly explicit and cohesive with excellent soundstaging, though it can ultimately feel slightly too analytical. This restraint means they lack a gung-ho presentation and miss out on the dynamics and excitement needed for more energetic music genres. Overall, they are a judicious, thoughtful, and long-lasting pair of headphones, though...

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones, reviewed by SoundGuys, deliver exceptional, high-fidelity audio with support for premium codecs like aptX Low Latency and AAC, alongside an innovative Light-Guide System for status updates. However, the headset suffers from a loose, large headband fit, an predominantly plastic construction, and buggy proximity sensors that cause unintended playback pauses. While offering great battery life, the active noise cancellation underperforms against competitors in blocking high-frequency sounds, and it relies on older Bluetooth 4.2 technology.

The Headfonics review highlights the Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC Traveller as a sonically impressive, highly portable headset, praising its effective clamping force and comfortable, well-padded design. Key pros include the slim, durable hard carry case for travel and the effective sound personalization via the MOSAIC/MIY app. However, the review notes that the physical footprint is slightly longer than some competitors, and the active noise cancellation (ANC), while reliable, does not fully block all ambient noise compared to industry leaders. Additionally, the hard case offers minimal interior cushioning.

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones, featured on Head-Fi, are positioned as a strong, audiophile-leaning option offering detailed, balanced sound with punchy bass and revealed treble. Key advantages include high-quality digital audio transmission via USB-C, effective sound personalization through the MIY app, and a comfortable design for extended listening sessions. However, the review outlines several drawbacks, including a plastic-heavy build that feels less premium than competitors and a poorly designed ANC switch prone to accidental operation. Additionally, users wearing glasses may experience significantly reduced noise cancellation performance due to a compromised ear cup seal.

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones ($399 USD) offer a highly user-friendly and exceptionally comfortable design that matches the comfort of industry leaders like Bose while being more compact, foldable, and portable than the Bose 700. They feature a novel Light Guide System (LGS) that utilizes color-coded illumination inside the earpads to show operational states, such as flashing blue during Bluetooth pairing. For connectivity, they support advanced Bluetooth codecs including AAC, aptX, and aptX Low Latency, the latter of which successfully eliminates lip-sync lag when watching videos. They also incorporate intuitive physical switches alongside touch-sensitive swipe controls, a two-year warranty, a robust semi-hardshell travel case, and compatibility with the MOSAYC app, which attempts to personalize audio performance through an interactive hearing test. Despite these premium features, the review highlights notable shortcomings, particularly in active noise cancellation, which is described as weak and modest compared to other over-$200 models. Sonically, the native tonal balance leans heavily toward a "plush," mellower signature with a soft treble that lacks exciting details, and a bloated lower midrange that makes vocals and acoustic guitars sound unnaturally...

The Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC is a wireless headphone that offers great sound quality with a wide sound stage and excellent detail. It features premium memory foam cushions for comfort, a long battery life of 24.5 hours with noise-cancelling on, and a unique Light Guide System inside the ear cups to show battery and pairing status. It also supports top audio codecs like aptX and AAC, allows for simultaneous pairing with two devices, and includes MOSAYC sound personalization to adapt the audio to your hearing. However, the headphones fall short when it comes to active noise-cancelling performance. The noise reduction mainly targets mid-range vocal sounds and fails to block out deep plane or train noises as well as its Bose and Sony competitors. Additionally, the retail price of S$599 makes it a low-value choice if your main goal is strong noise cancellation, and the package oddly lacks an airline adapter.
