Third-party reviews

What we like about Holy Stone HS420

  • Foldable and just 31 g, fits in a pocket
  • 1080p camera with live view on a phone
  • Altitude hold for steady hovering
  • Headless mode simplifies control
  • Very affordable

What we don't like about Holy Stone HS420

  • 2 MP camera gives soft, unstabilised video
  • No GPS or return-to-home
  • Small 300 mAh battery
  • Brushed motors limit durability

Verdict

The Holy Stone HS420 is a pocket-sized camera drone for kids, adults and beginners who want a first taste of aerial video. It weighs just 31 g and folds small, so it slips into a jacket pocket or school bag. A 2 MP camera records 1080p and streams a live picture to a phone over Wi-Fi, which is enough for playful clips but not for sharp, steady footage. Altitude hold and headless mode do much of the work for new pilots. The height stays constant and the controls feel intuitive. The 300 mAh battery is modest, and brushed motors keep costs down at the price of long-term durability. With no GPS, the drone drifts outdoors and has no return-to-home. As a cheap and portable camera drone for indoor fun or calm days, it makes a sensible starter.
