What we like about Nikon COOLPIX W100

  • Extremely durable, waterproof (up to 33ft), and shockproof (up to 5.9ft)
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use interface, ideal for children and beginners
  • Compact, lightweight, and pocket-friendly design
  • Includes fun creative filters, scene modes, and frames
  • Affordable price point for a rugged camera
  • Seamless background image transfer via SnapBridge (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi)

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX W100

  • Image quality is often compared to a basic smartphone and can be grainy in low light
  • Very limited manual controls and few menu options for advanced users
  • Low-resolution rear LCD screen
  • SnapBridge app setup and connectivity can be tricky or inconsistent
  • Limited 3x optical zoom range
  • Slow autofocus performance, particularly when panning or in movies

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix W100 is a rugged compact camera featuring a 13.2MP CMOS sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens (30-90mm equivalent). It is built for durability, boasting waterproof ratings up to 10m, shockproofing from 1.8m, and freezeproofing down to -10°C. Main pros include its highly intuitive interface with a dedicated 'Variety Menu' for kids, Full HD 1080p video capability, and SnapBridge Bluetooth connectivity for easy sharing. On the downside, it suffers from a small 1/3.1-inch sensor that limits low-light performance, a relatively low-resolution 230k-dot LCD, and a lack of manual exposure controls.
