Verdict

The Fujifilm FinePix XP70 is a rugged, adventure-ready compact camera featuring a 16.4-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and an internal 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) with sensor-shift image stabilisation. Designed to withstand harsh environments, it is waterproof up to 10 metres, shockproof from drops up to 1.5 metres, freezeproof down to -10°C, and fully dustproof. Its primary strengths include a dedicated Action Camera mode for hands-free recording, Full HD 1080i video capture at 60 fps, built-in Wi-Fi for instant mobile sharing, and a high-speed burst mode capable of reaching 10 fps at full resolution. However, the camera is limited by a relatively short CIPA-rated battery life of approximately 210 shots per charge, a 2.7-inch LCD with a modest 460k-dot resolution, and a disappointing minimum macro focusing distance of 9cm compared to more advanced competitors in the rugged category.
