What we like about Fujifilm FinePix XP80

  • Rugged build: waterproof (50ft), shockproof (5.8ft), freezeproof, and dustproof
  • Lightweight and compact, making it ideal for travel and family holidays
  • Simple and intuitive to use, even for children
  • Good image quality in bright, outdoor lighting conditions
  • Fast burst shooting mode at up to 10 fps
  • Built-in Wi-Fi for easy photo transfer to smartphones

What we don't like about Fujifilm FinePix XP80

  • Poor performance in low-light environments with significant image noise
  • Short battery life, particularly when recording video
  • Lack of manual controls for shutter speed and aperture
  • No RAW shooting capability, limiting post-processing options
  • Visible image smoothing and loss of fine detail when viewed at 100%
  • Video quality is mediocre with noticeable compression artefacts

Verdict

The Fujifilm FinePix XP80 is a rugged compact camera featuring a 16.4-megapixel 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent) with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation. Designed for active use, its primary characteristics include being waterproof up to 15 metres, shockproof from drops up to 1.75 metres, freezeproof down to -10°C, and dustproof. Main pros include its highly durable build, handy 10fps full-resolution continuous burst shooting, built-in Wi-Fi for remote control, and clear 2.7-inch anti-reflective LCD screen. However, it suffers from several cons, such as disappointing image quality in low-light conditions, limited manual controls, and a subpar battery life rated at just 210 shots per charge.
