Third-party reviews

Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Nikon COOLPIX L120

  • High-resolution 3-inch LCD screen with 921k-dot resolution
  • Powerful 21x optical zoom lens (25-525mm equivalent)
  • Exceptional macro performance for close-up photography
  • Uses widely available AA batteries for power
  • Simple, straightforward menus and easy-to-use auto modes for beginners
  • Effective vibration reduction and image stabilization
  • Comfortable handling with a large, textured rubber hand grip

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX L120

  • Mediocre photo quality at higher ISO settings (above ISO 200/800) with heavy-handed noise reduction
  • Lack of an electronic viewfinder makes framing difficult in bright sunlight
  • Very basic photographic control with limited manual overrides
  • Autofocus can struggle and hunt, especially at telephoto settings or in video mode
  • No built-in panoramic stitching or high dynamic range (HDR) modes
  • Pop-up flash is manual and cannot be used during video recording
  • Noticeable loss of sharpness at the extreme telephoto end of the zoom range

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix L120 is a 14.1-megapixel bridge camera featuring a 21x optical zoom NIKKOR lens (25-525mm equivalent) and a high-resolution 3-inch 921k-dot LCD screen. Key characteristics include 720p HD video recording with stereo sound, a dedicated movie button, and dual image stabilisation through sensor-shift and electronic Vibration Reduction. Its main pros are the versatile focal range for wide-angle and super-telephoto shots, a capable 1cm macro mode, and the convenience of being powered by four easily replaceable AA batteries. However, it lacks manual exposure controls (ASM modes) and a viewfinder, while cons include noticeable noise and loss of detail at high ISO settings, slow continuous shooting at full resolution, and some autofocus hunting at the maximum telephoto range.
