What we like about Keychron Q60 Max QMK VIA Wireless

  • Exceptional build quality with a heavy, CNC-machined aluminum chassis
  • Smooth and responsive typing experience enhanced by a double-gasket mount design
  • Highly customizable through QMK/VIA firmware and hot-swappable switch sockets
  • Versatile connectivity options including 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C
  • Premium acoustic dampening using multiple layers of specialized foam (IXPE, PET, Latex)
  • Excellent factory-lubed Gateron Jupiter switches that provide a scratch-free feel

What we don't like about Keychron Q60 Max QMK VIA Wireless

  • High price point compared to standard mechanical keyboards
  • Niche HHKB layout has a steep learning curve for users accustomed to traditional layouts
  • RGB lighting can appear dim and act more like an underglow due to non-shine-through keycaps
  • Significant weight makes it poorly suited for travel or frequent portability
  • Drastic drop in battery life when RGB lighting is enabled (from 180 hours down to 30)

Verdict

The Keychron Q60 Max is a premium 60% mechanical keyboard featuring the iconic HHKB (Happy Hacking Keyboard) layout and a heavy CNC aluminum body for a rock-solid build. It offers versatile tri-mode connectivity via 2.4 GHz wireless (1000Hz polling rate), Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C, alongside hot-swappable Gateron Jupiter switches and Cherry profile dye-sub PBT keycaps. Key pros include its high-end double-gasket mount design for a cushioned typing feel, enhanced multi-layer acoustic foam for superior sound quality, and full QMK/VIA support for complete layout customization. However, its niche layout may have a steep learning curve for some users, and its substantial weight and lack of adjustable feet can limit portability and ergonomic fine-tuning.
