What we like about NVIDIA RTX A4000

  • Ultra-compact single-slot design allows for high-density multi-GPU setups in standard workstations.
  • Generous 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM with Error Correction Code (ECC) is ideal for complex 3D rendering and professional CAD datasets.
  • High energy efficiency with a low 140W TDP, requiring only a single 6-pin power connector.
  • Professional-grade driver stability and ISV certifications for mission-critical software like SolidWorks and Revit.
  • Strong performance leap over previous generation Quadro cards, offering nearly double the speed in some CUDA and ray-tracing tests.
  • Capable of light to moderate 4K gaming, performing similarly to an RTX 3060 Ti or 3070.

What we don't like about NVIDIA RTX A4000

  • Small blower-style fan can become loud and run hot under heavy workloads like 4K video rendering.
  • Significantly higher price-to-performance ratio for gaming compared to consumer GeForce cards.
  • Limited overclocking headroom due to strictly locked voltage and thermal constraints of the single-slot cooler.
  • Lacks native HDMI ports, necessitating the use of active adapters for certain displays or TVs.
  • Does not support NVLink, preventing memory pooling between multiple cards.

Verdict

The Nvidia RTX A4000 is a professional-grade workstation GPU based on the Ampere architecture, featuring 6,144 CUDA cores, 192 third-generation Tensor cores, and 48 second-generation RT cores. It is equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 memory with Error-Correcting Code (ECC) on a 256-bit interface, delivering a bandwidth of 448 GB/s and a single-precision performance of 19.2 TFLOPS. Its primary advantages include a compact single-slot form factor suitable for diverse workstation chassis, high power efficiency with a maximum TGP of 140W, and support for four simultaneous 5K or two 8K displays via DisplayPort 1.4a. However, main drawbacks include a blower-style cooling system that can become loud or prone to thermal throttling under heavy loads, a higher price point compared to equivalent gaming-focused GPUs, and the absence of NVLink support for multi-GPU scaling.
