Third-party reviews

Based on 22 buyer reviews from online shops.
Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC XS1

  • Ultra-slim and highly portable design that fits easily in small bags
  • Inexpensive price point makes it an accessible entry-level or backup camera
  • Good performance in daylight, producing vibrant and sharp images at low ISO
  • Features a 5x optical zoom with 24mm wide-angle coverage
  • Fast startup and reasonable shutter lag for a compact camera

What we don't like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC XS1

  • Poor low-light performance with high levels of noise at ISO 400 and above
  • LCD screen has low resolution and poor viewing angles, especially from above or below
  • Battery life can drain quicker than the official 260-shot rating
  • Lacks modern connectivity features like built-in Wi-Fi
  • Colors can sometimes appear inaccurate or 'bad' to more experienced users

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-XS1 is an ultra-slim, pocket-sized compact camera featuring a 16.1-megapixel 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens with a versatile 24-120mm equivalent focal range. Its standout characteristics include a remarkably thin 14mm body, MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization), 720p HD video recording, and a 2.7-inch LCD screen. Main pros highlight its exceptional portability, stylish metal design available in multiple colors, and wide-angle coverage ideal for group shots. However, its notable cons include poor low-light performance due to the CCD sensor, a low-resolution display with limited viewing angles, slow startup times, and the lack of Wi-Fi connectivity.
