What we like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC SZ7

  • Ultra-compact and slim design that easily fits in pockets
  • Impressive 10x optical zoom range (25-250mm equivalent) for its size
  • Fast shooting performance with a 10fps burst mode
  • Quick and reliable Light Speed autofocus system
  • High-quality 1080p full HD video recording with stereo sound
  • Effective optical image stabilization to reduce blur

What we don't like about Panasonic LUMIX DMC SZ7

  • Short battery life often requiring a spare for full-day use
  • Poor LCD viewing angles make it hard to see from certain positions
  • Noticeable image noise and quality loss at higher ISO settings (above 400-800)
  • Lack of manual exposure controls (no aperture or shutter priority modes)
  • In-camera charging via USB can be inconvenient compared to external chargers
  • Small sensor limits fine detail for large prints or heavy cropping

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ7 is a slender, pocket-friendly compact camera featuring a 14.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor and a versatile 25-250mm (35mm equivalent) Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with 10x optical zoom. It is distinguished by its high-speed performance, offering a 0.1-second 'Light Speed' autofocus system and a rapid 10 fps continuous shooting rate at full resolution. Additional highlights include Full HD 1080/50i video recording with stereo sound, a 3.0-inch 460k-dot Intelligent LCD, and specialized modes like HDR and 3D photography. While its portability and fast AF are significant pros, its main drawbacks include a limited battery life of approximately 220–250 shots, poor viewing angles on the LCD screen, and a noticeable decline in image sharpness and detail when shooting at higher ISO settings above 400.
