Third-party reviews

Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Nikon COOLPIX S6100

  • Compact lightweight design is easy to carry every day
  • Image quality is good in bright light for a simple compact camera
  • 7x optical zoom gives more reach than many slim point-and-shoot models
  • 3-inch touchscreen is intuitive and easy to use
  • Macro and close-up shots can look very good
  • Image stabilization helps improve sharpness in less stable shooting situations

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX S6100

  • Battery life is fairly short, especially at full 16MP resolution
  • Image quality suffers in low light with more noise and softer detail
  • The camera cannot be used while charging
  • Wireless connectivity such as Wi-Fi is missing
  • Image review after shooting can feel a bit slow
  • Video recording is limited to 720p at 30 fps

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix S6100 is a compact 16.0-megapixel digital camera featuring a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor and a 7x wide-angle NIKKOR optical zoom lens (28-196mm equivalent) with a maximum aperture of f/3.7-5.6. Its main characteristics include a 3.0-inch 460k-dot touchscreen LCD, 720p HD video recording with stereo sound, and an ISO range of 80–3200. Key pros are its highly portable, lightweight design (175g), effective lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) for reducing camera shake, and a dedicated movie-record button for quick video capture. However, common cons include a relatively short battery life of approximately 210 shots per charge, lack of RAW file support, and no manual exposure modes for advanced creative control.
