What we like about Nikon COOLPIX L32

  • Extremely easy to use for beginners and children due to fully automatic operation
  • Good image quality for a budget camera, especially in daylight, thanks to the 20.1MP sensor
  • Uses standard AA batteries which are easily found worldwide and convenient for travel
  • Very compact and lightweight, making it highly portable for daily carry
  • Offers a 5x optical zoom which provides more flexibility than most standard smartphones
  • Includes a variety of fun in-camera filters and beauty retouching effects

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX L32

  • Poor LCD screen quality with a limited angle of view that washes out easily
  • Lacks mechanical image stabilization, relying only on electronic VR which is less effective
  • Struggles significantly in low-light conditions due to the small 1/2.3-inch sensor and limited ISO range
  • No manual control options or RAW shooting capability for advanced users
  • Video resolution is limited to 720p HD, which is low compared to modern standards
  • Missing modern connectivity features like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for easy photo sharing

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix L32 is an ultracompact point-and-shoot camera featuring a 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor and a NIKKOR 5x optical zoom lens with a 26–130mm equivalent focal range. Its main characteristics include a 3.0-inch 230k-dot LCD monitor, 720p HD video recording at 30 fps, and a 'Smart Portrait System' with features like Glamour Retouch. The camera's primary pros are its extremely user-friendly interface, pocketable 164g lightweight design, and the convenience of being powered by two standard AA batteries, which are easily replaced while travelling. However, it suffers from several cons, including a lack of optical image stabilization (relying only on electronic VR), poor low-light performance due to its small 1/2.3" sensor and ISO cap of 1600, and a lack of manual exposure controls or RAW shooting capabilities.
