Third-party reviews

What we like about Fujifilm X-A1

  • Exceptional image quality and sharpness for an APS-C sensor
  • Colors and balance of JPEG files (with the classic Fuji film simulations) excellent out of the box
  • Good performance at high ISO with low noise levels
  • Excellent value for money on the used market
  • Built-in flash and very convenient tilting rear screen

What we don't like about Fujifilm X-A1

  • Autofocus a little slow, particularly in low-light situations
  • Lightweight camera body but made of plastic materials
  • Lack of electronic viewfinder (EVF), you can only shoot via the LCD screen
  • Video features are basic and not up to modern standards
  • Slightly longer turn-on times than today's cameras

Verdict

The Fujifilm X-A1 is an entry-level mirrorless interchangeable lens camera featuring a 16.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with a standard Bayer filter array and the EXR Processor II. Its main characteristics include a 3-inch 920k-dot tilting LCD screen, 5.6 fps continuous shooting, Full HD 1080p video recording at 30fps, and built-in Wi-Fi for wireless image transfer. The camera is highly regarded for its compact, lightweight design (weighing approximately 330g with battery), excellent high-ISO performance up to 25,600, and signature film simulation modes like Velvia and Astia. However, its primary drawbacks include a lack of a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF), a predominantly plastic body construction, and occasionally slow autofocus performance compared to higher-end X-series models.
