Built with a rugged, waterproof design that can withstand depths down to 33 feet without an extra case, the camera introduces a squarer 8:7 aspect ratio sensor. This unique sensor shape allows content creators to easily extract both horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 frames from a single clip, while enabling a highly effective Horizon Lock feature and an ultra-wide Hyperview mode. Additionally, it boasts class-leading Hypersmooth digital stabilization, intuitive voice control, multiple time-lapse modes (such as Star Trails and Light Painting), and a convenient auto-upload subscription service that clears memory cards and pushes automatically edited highlights to smartphones. However, the review highlights distinct limitations, particularly regarding battery endurance and recording longevity. The camera includes a cold-weather-optimized Enduro battery by default, but it struggles with heat dissipation during stationary use, resulting in the camera shutting down due to overheating after about 25 minutes of continuous 5.3K60 recording....

The GoPro Hero 11 Black maintains the identical external chassis of its predecessor but introduces a larger 8:7 aspect ratio sensor designed specifically to simplify vertical video creation for platforms like TikTok. This hardware upgrade enables users to shoot high-resolution footage and flexibly crop it into both 9:16 vertical and 16:9 widescreen formats without losing quality. Key advantages of the camera include its ability to extract high-resolution 24.7-megapixel still images directly from 5.3K video, a standard inclusion of the longer-lasting Enduro battery that extends recording times by 38 percent, and the addition of 10-bit color for advanced post-production grading. It also features a simplified "Easy Mode" interface for casual users and automated software modes like Star Trails and Vehicle Light Trails that execute complex time-lapses with a single button press.

The GoPro Hero 11 Black stands out as a highly versatile action camera, specifically optimized for social media creators due to its innovative hardware tweaks. The flagship camera introduces a unique 1/1.9-inch sensor with a nearly square 8:7 aspect ratio. Additionally, the camera ships with the superior Enduro battery as standard, improving performance in cold weather and lengthening recording times, all managed through an updated user interface that offers simplified "Easy" and "Pro" menu modes. However, the review highlights several distinct drawbacks, noting that the camera represents an iterative upgrade rather than a massive generational leap. Key cons include a persistent lack of strong low-light performance, as the larger sensor focuses on aspect-ratio flexibility rather than improving pure light-gathering capabilities. Furthermore, internal audio options remain unchanged and highly limited, requiring...

This unique sensor layout allows creators to easily crop a single clip into multiple formats—such as 16:9, 4:3, or vertical 9:16—making it an exceptionally versatile tool for various social media platforms via the GoPro Quik app. Key advantages include the ultra-wide HyperView shooting mode, highly impressive HyperSmooth 5.0 digital image stabilization, and a 360-degree Horizon Lock that keeps videos completely level. Advanced videographers will also appreciate the addition of 10-bit color depth for smoother gradients and a higher bit rate capability of up to 120 Mbps. To satisfy different user preferences, GoPro added a simplified "Easy" mode alongside the full-control "Pro" mode, introduced long-exposure night modes like star trails, and packaged the camera with the longer-lasting, cold-weather Enduro battery. Despite these innovative features, the reviewer highlights several notable drawbacks. The combination of Horizon Lock and HyperSmooth creates significant motion blur when shooting in low-light environments, meaning it is best reserved for well-lit...

The Gizmodo hands-on review highlights the GoPro Hero 11 Black as an excellent action camera for casual users, backpackers, and athletes due to its outstanding fundamentals. The standout upgrade is a new image sensor that introduces a unique 8:7 aspect ratio. This offers immense flexibility for content creators because it captures a taller vertical field of view, making it much easier to crop high-quality videos into standard 16:9 widescreen formats or social media-friendly layouts. In terms of performance pros, the review praises the stunning, cinematic look of the 4K video at 60 fps, accurate color reproduction, and the exceptionally smooth HyperSmooth 5.0 stabilization tech, which successfully neutralized shaky footage during helicopter and speedboat tests. Additional pros include 10-bit color depth (boasting 1 billion shades), upgraded photo resolutions (27 MP photos and 24.7 MP video frame-grabs), new creative software tools like light painting, and the standard inclusion of the longer-lasting Enduro battery. The GoPro Hero11 Black is an outstanding action camera that features a redesigned, nearly square 8:7 aspect ratio image sensor, allowing creators to easily extract both 16:9 horizontal and 9:16 vertical frames from a single clip. It records high-quality video up to 5.3K at 60fps, 4K at 120fps, and 2.7K at 240fps for slow-motion effects, all supported by 10-bit color sampling for advanced color grading. The camera integrates a rugged, waterproof build capable of submerging up to 33 feet without an extra case, a responsive rear touch interface, and reliable voice command support. Furthermore, its class-leading Hypersmooth digital stabilization ensures eerily steady handheld footage and introduces a highly effective horizon lock that keeps video perfectly level even during extreme motion. Key advantages include 10-bit color, HyperSmooth 5.0 with 360° Horizon Lock, and new time-lapse modes like Star Trails. Conversely, the review notes that the larger sensor provides no significant low-light improvements, and the HyperView mode causes noticeable edge distortion. Additionally, the camera retains the same design and microphone array as its predecessor, requiring accessories for improved audio.

The GoPro Hero 11 is highlighted as a major upgrade and an excellent, highly portable device for general content creation and travel vlogging rather than just extreme action sports. Its standout features include a newer, larger 27-megapixel 1/1.9” sensor that allows creators to capture 13% taller video in an 8:7 aspect ratio, making it incredibly easy to crop footage for both YouTube (16:9) and TikTok (9:16) after filming. In terms of video performance, the camera delivers exceptionally crisp 5.2K video at 60fps and impressive slow-motion capabilities, such as 4K at 100fps. It also introduces professional-grade 10-bit colour depth that captures over a billion shades for advanced post-production colour grading, alongside a powerful "Hyperview" ultra-wide field of view and highly stable filming thanks to Hypersmooth 5.0 with Horizon Lock. Despite its premium performance, the review highlights several distinct drawbacks, particularly regarding software, battery life, and photography. This unique sensor design allows content creators to capture high-resolution 5.3K video clips at up to 60fps and seamlessly crop both landscape and vertical 16:9 orientations from a single take, making it a game-changer for cross-platform publishing. Key performance highlights include the exceptionally smooth HyperSmooth 5.0 video stabilisation and a full 360-degree Horizon Lock that keeps the horizon perfectly level even when the camera is fully inverted. Additionally, the camera supports 10-bit colour depth for advanced post-production grading and introduces a super-distorted, ultra-wide "HyperView" mode that squeezes the full 8:7 image into a standard 16:9 frame. Despite these formidable updates, the camera retains several persistent drawbacks inherited from its predecessors. On the positive side, its clear pros include the flexible 8:7 sensor, superb image stabilisation, and the impressive 360-degree horizon leveling. However, its cons remain notable: it carries a premium price tag compared to its rivals, suffers from...

The GoPro Hero 11 Black stands out as a highly durable, compact action camera that measures 71.8×50.8×33.6mm and weighs 154 grams, making it an appealing option for travel vlogging and casual clip shooting rather than just extreme sports. The reviewer found its 1.4-inch front screen and 2.27-inch rear touch display easy to use, noting that the camera's traditional appearance makes the public less self-conscious around it compared to smartphones. It delivers highly flexible video performance, capturing up to 5.3K resolution at 60fps and 4K at 120fps, which provides an excellent buffer for cropping or shooting in versatile vertical 8:7 formats. However, the review highlights several distinct drawbacks when using the device for longer, sedate travel videos. On the downside, the camera quickly gets uncomfortably hot during high-resolution recording and suffers from low-light shooting limitations and mediocre built-in audio pickup. Battery life is also a concern, draining in under an hour at maximum settings, while the ultra-durable door makes swapping batteries or microSD cards quite difficult without a tool like a coin. Pros include its compact size that unlocks creative shooting...
