Insta360 Ace Pro Review | 96 Data compared

The Insta360 Ace Pro is a robust, wide-angle action camera co-engineered with Leica that features a 1/1.3-inch sensor and a 5nm AI chip. It is the first action camera to support 8K video resolution (at 24fps), alongside 4K slow-motion up to 120fps and 48MP still photos. The camera stands out for its unique 2.4-inch rear flip touchscreen designed for easy selfie framing, and it utilizes a convenient magnetic plate for quick-snapping mounting transitions. Built with FlowState stabilization and Horizon Lock, it delivers stable footage during action sports and provides native waterproofing down to 10 meters. A major pro of the Ace Pro is its industry-leading video resolution and impressive image quality across all shooting modes. The AI-boosted chip and large sensor combine to deliver strong noise reduction and superior low-light performance. Additionally, its separate HDR photo mode manages overexposed highlights exceptionally well, and color replication for skin tones is highly accurate. On the downside, the camera is more expensive ($449.99) and significantly heavier (179.8g) than main competitors like the GoPro Hero 12 Black and DJI Action 4. Other cons include...

The Insta360 Ace Pro is a highly capable and innovative action camera featuring a 1/1.3-inch sensor that introduces a strong third competitor to the GoPro and DJI-dominated market. A standout positive feature is its sturdy 180-degree flip-up touchscreen, which acts as a built-in stand and makes framing vlogs or unique timelapse angles effortless. The camera boasts versatile video capabilities, including 8K recording at 24fps, impressive low-light performance with real-time noise reduction via PureVideo mode, and seamless TimeShift hyperlapses with excellent stabilization. Users also benefit from creative AI-assisted options like "AI Warp" filters, FreeFrame open-gate shooting for multiple aspect ratios, responsive UI controls, and a quick magnetic mounting system. However, the reviewer highlights several minor drawbacks and design trade-offs to keep in mind before purchasing. From a physical design standpoint, the camera lacks a standard 1/4-20 tripod thread directly on the body, requiring users to purchase separate adapters, and its magnetic mount is incompatible with previous models like the GO 3. Performance limitations include a noticeably lower image quality when pushing slow-motion up to 1080p at 240fps compared to its excellent...

The Insta360 Ace Pro is an impressive 8/10 rated hybrid action camera co-engineered with a 16-mm wide-angle f/2.6 Leica lens and a 1/1.3-inch sensor that excels at action-oriented vlogging. Key advantages include its large, bright flip-up rear screen which enables precise shot framing and waist-level monitoring, alongside a front black-and-white settings display. It provides superb outdoor color rendition and true-to-life skin tones straight out of the box, dependable FlowState video stabilization, and 8K video resolution capability at 24 fps. Hardware highlights feature a secure magnetic mounting system, wide range of accessories (such as a streamlined external mic attachment), and fast-charging capabilities that reach an 80% battery charge in 22 minutes. However, the camera comes with several notable drawbacks, including a heavy 6.3-ounce (180-gram) body that is noticeable when held or mounted to a helmet. Its audio quality serves as a weak link, out-of-the-box footage is aggressively over-sharpened, and low-light or cloudy indoor shooting can introduce minor softness in the corners of 4K footage. Filmmakers may also dislike that it lacks an option to record Log video and missing 5.3K or...

The Insta360 Ace Pro marks the company’s deliberate expansion into the traditional action camera market with a rugged, compact design that features a sharp 2.3-inch flippable touchscreen ideal for selfie framing and vlogging. Built with a 1/1.3-inch 48-megapixel sensor and a Leica-branded f/2.6 lens, the camera excels in delivering punchy daylight photographs and class-leading low-light imagery with natural skin tones and excellent dynamic range. Its video performance is highly impressive, boasting genuine detail in 8K resolution at 24fps and robust 4K slow-motion tracking up to 120fps, all supported by powerful stabilization and excellent heat tolerance that prevents overheating during extended clips. However, the camera has notable limitations, including an opaque swipe-based user interface that lacks a customizable top button and an AI-powered "AI Warp" video feature that requires processing externally through a smartphone app rather than in-camera. For photography, shooting in 48-megapixel or DNG RAW provides almost imperceptible quality gains over 12-megapixel JPEGs while causing slower capture speeds and larger file sizes. Hardware compromises also include a restrictive 0.4-meter minimum focus distance that can hinder close-up vlogging, and a non-user-replaceable...

The Trusted Reviews evaluation of the Insta360 Ace Pro highlights the device as a formidable challenger to GoPro, praising its 2.4-inch flip-up touchscreen, 1/1.3-inch sensor, and exceptional low-light performance. Key features include 4K/120fps video, effective FlowState stabilization, and a convenient magnetic mounting system. However, the review notes a lack of a built-in tripod mount, a finicky port cover, and a more complex UI compared to competitors. The premium price point, which is higher than rivals, is also cited as a potential drawback.

The Insta360 Ace Pro stands out as a compelling, wide-angle action camera alternative featuring a large 1/1.3” sensor and a 2.4” flip screen that excels at low-angle shots and selfies. Key advantages include superior low-light performance using its AI-assisted PureVideo mode, up to 8K resolution capabilities with a unique 2x "Clarity Zoom" dynamic crop feature, and robust image stabilisation that can be further enhanced using FreeFrame mode and GyroFlow software. Users will also benefit from its strong magnetic mounting system, Power Delivery fast charging that reaches 80% capacity in 22 minutes, and an optional watch-sized GPS Remote offering full camera control with a live preview. However, the reviewer highlights several notable drawbacks, including a high price point relative to rivals like the GoPro Hero 12 and DJI Osmo Action 4. Structurally, the camera suffers from a fixed, non-removable lens assembly that requires manufacturer repair if damaged, as well as a restrictive minimum focus distance of 40cm that makes close-up handheld selfies appear blurry without third-party diopter accessories. Software limitations restrict Active HDR video to frame rates at or below 30...
