What it is
Average grade from independent test sites, magazines and video reviewers, 1–10.
How we count it
Grades: Each review's own score is converted to 1–10; without one, we grade the review ourselves. Big test sites count more, short reviews half as much as full tests. A video review counts half.
Score: The average grade is 80% of the review mark; the number of reviews is the other 20% (1 review = 5, the typical number in this category = 8, the most-reviewed model = 10).

Verdict
The Intel Core i7-11700KF is an unlocked 8-core chip for enthusiasts with a separate graphics card, but its power limits run much higher than the 125 W rating suggests.

Third-party reviews

What we like about Intel Core i7-11700KF

  • The 5.0 GHz boost clock is quick for games and single tasks.
  • The unlocked multiplier lets you tune the speed yourself.
  • Eight cores and 16 threads handle heavy desktop work.
  • A Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 9587 shows strong all-round speed.
  • Memory support reaches 128 GB at 3200 MHz.
  • PCIe 4.0 with 20 lanes gives a fast link to the graphics card.

What we don't like about Intel Core i7-11700KF

  • The 251 W boost power needs a strong power supply and good cooling.
  • There is no cooler in the box.
  • The boost lasts only 56 seconds in long heavy loads.
  • There is no integrated graphics, so a graphics card is required.

Verdict

Unlocked and boosting to 5.0 GHz, the Intel Core i7-11700KF is aimed at people who like to tune their own PC. Eight cores and 16 threads give plenty of speed for games and heavy desktop work, and a clock multiplier of 36 leaves room to adjust the speed. The trade-off is that the chip needs a lot of power, with 125 W base and 251 W at boost, so cooling must be strong. Its turbo runs out after 56 seconds, so long heavy jobs slow down. There is no cooler in the box, and no integrated graphics, so a graphics card is required. It suits an enthusiast who already owns a good cooler and a graphics card, and who enjoys adjusting speed by hand.
