Average grade from independent test sites, magazines and video reviewers, 1–10.
How we count it
Grades: Each review's own score is converted to 1–10; without one, we grade the review ourselves. Big test sites count more, short reviews half as much as full tests. A video review counts half.
Score: The average grade is 80% of the review mark; the number of reviews is the other 20% (1 review = 5, the typical number in this category = 8, the most-reviewed model = 10).

Intel Core i7-10700KF is a strong gaming chip with good overclocking, but AMD offers better value and Z490 lock-in is a drawback.
Overview video

Third-party reviews

What we like about Intel Core i7-10700KF

  • The 5.1 GHz boost clock is quick in games and single tasks.
  • Eight cores and 16 threads handle video editing and heavy multitasking.
  • The unlocked multiplier lets you raise the speed by hand.
  • The 16 MB L3 cache keeps frequently used data close to the cores.
  • DDR4 memory support reaches 128 GB at 2933 MHz.
  • A Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 8138 shows solid all-round speed.

What we don't like about Intel Core i7-10700KF

  • There is no integrated graphics, so a separate graphics card is needed.
  • 125 W base power and 229 W boost power run hot and need good cooling.
  • There is no cooler in the box.
  • It is built on the older 14 nm process, so it is less efficient than newer chips.

Verdict

Those who want the most speed from a Comet Lake chip will find the Intel Core i7-10700KF built for them. Its 5.1 GHz boost clock is the main draw, and eight cores with 16 threads suit video editing and heavy multitasking. The unlocked multiplier lets you push the speed higher yourself, which is a nice option to have. The trade-off is that it has no integrated graphics, so you need a separate graphics card before the screen lights up. It is also hungry, with 229 W at boost, so the power supply and cooling must be up to the job. There is no cooler in the box. It suits a gamer or editor who already has a graphics card picked out and likes to tune the speed by hand.
