ASUS ROG Azoth X Review | 64 Data compared

The TechPowerUp review hails the ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme as an elite 75% mechanical keyboard, highlighting its premium CNC-machined aluminum chassis, innovative adjustable gasket mount, and excellent acoustics provided by a multi-layer dampening design. Featuring pre-lubed ROG NX switches and a 1.47-inch OLED touchscreen, it offers superior performance with versatile tri-mode connectivity. However, the review notes significant drawbacks, primarily the steep $499.99 price point and the bloated, resource-heavy Armoury Crate software. Further criticisms include the smaller OLED screen compared to its predecessor, lack of diverse switch options, and the use of opaque keycap legends.

Despite these premium features, the review ultimately finds the keyboard impossible to recommend due to its runaway budget. The $500 price is a massive drawback, especially since its typing acoustics and feel can be easily matched or outperformed by custom DIY kits or pre-built options like the Keychron Q3 Max, which costs half the price. Furthermore, its target audience is highly confusing. While the high 8,000 Hz polling rate targets competitive esports players, the keyboard lacks vital modern competitive features like analogue Hall effect switches and rapid trigger technology found in rival boards like the Wooting 60HE. Software configuration is another pain point, as the mandatory Armoury Crate app is criticized for being poorly laid out and counterintuitive.

The ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme is a 75% compact wireless gaming keyboard characterized by exceptional, tank-like build quality, a high-quality carbon fiber plate, and pre-lubed switches. Key strengths include 8,000Hz wireless polling rate for ultra-low latency, a unique adjustable gasket mount for modifying typing feel, and a functional OLED screen. Cons include a high-profile design, significant weight, and a very high, enthusiast-level price point. Furthermore, the lack of dedicated media and macro keys reduces functionality for, and its heavy build makes it impractical for, portable use. YouTube ·

It also includes a customizable color OLED touch screen alongside a three-way control knob for navigation and system tracking. Despite these opulent features, the keyboard earns a "Good" 3.5-star rating primarily due to its staggering $499.99 price tag, which makes it a massive financial hurdle for anyone but hardcore keynerds. The main con—aside from the prohibitive cost—is that the small OLED touch screen can be tricky, inaccurate, and frustrating to swipe or tap during testing. Furthermore, while the dual-mode hard/soft paddle switch is a neat idea, the physical...
