Sony WH-CH700N Review Summary The Sony WH-CH700N wireless over-ear headphones offer a highly competitive package for budget-conscious listeners, highlighted by an impressive battery life of up to 35 hours and a quick-charge feature providing one hour of playback from a 10-minute charge. Weighing just 240g, the sleek plastic design features rotating ear cups that make them highly portable for users on the move. In terms of audio performance, the headphones excel at delivering crisp mids and highs, ensuring that vocal performances and guitar solos are rendered with excellent clarity and verve. Additionally, users can customize their experience via the Sony Headphones Connect app to adjust the EQ and integrate voice assistants like Alexa, Google, or Siri. However, the headphones suffer from several distinct drawbacks, most notably an underwhelming and shallow bass response that falls short for dance music or heavy tracks. While the active noise cancelling (ANC) successfully dampens mild background sounds like a television, it fails to completely block out louder external noises. Furthermore, the device relies on outdated Bluetooth 4.1 technology. Comfort is another major concern; the ear...

The Sony WH-CH700N stands out as the brand's most affordable pair of wireless, noise-canceling headphones, providing excellent value for budget-conscious buyers prioritizing isolation over absolute sound accuracy. Its primary highlights include an exceptionally comfortable over-ear fit featuring soft leather ear pads that offer great natural sound isolation, combined with a highly impressive 35-hour battery life and a quick-charge capability that grants 60 minutes of playback from just a 10-minute charge. Additionally, the headset includes convenient user controls directly on the earcup, physical flat-swiveling earcups for enhanced portability, reliable 30-to-40-foot Bluetooth range, hands-free calling, and voice assistance compatibility with Google and Siri. Despite these strengths, the review notes several design and performance compromises. On the construction side, the headphones lack a fully folding mechanism, limiting how compact they can get for travel. Sound quality also presents a mixed bag; while the high frequencies deliver pronounced clarity for classical music and the low-end provides a bouncy, enjoyable punch for pop and hip-hop, the midrange suffers from a noticeable hollowness. This lack of midrange warmth makes rock music sound dissatisfied and unbalanced, and...

The Sony WH-CH700N is a closed-back, wireless over-ear headphone featuring active noise cancelling (ANC) and a highly durable battery that delivers up to 35 hours of playback time. The reviewer notes that its overall build and comfort are average for its €100 to €150 price range, but highlights its strong versatility due to a built-in phone app featuring a customizable 5-band equalizer. In terms of sound profile, performance heavily relies on whether the device is powered on; when used in active mode, the headphone utilizes digital signal processing to boost the upper mids, treble, and bass, resulting in a significantly more lively, tasteful, and clearer presentation than its flat and subdued passive wired mode. Despite these practical benefits, the headphone suffers from several technical limitations and acoustic flaws. A primary drawback is its poorly implemented noise cancelling feature, which only provides minor attenuation between 100Hz and 1kHz and is insufficient for drowning out loud ambient environments like buses or airplanes. Furthermore, acoustic testing reveals a severe driver resonance around 5.5kHz that hits a high 5% distortion rate in active mode,...

YouTube·Consumer Tech ReviewWhile the build is sturdy and controls are intuitive, the active noise cancellation is considered only adequate for basic, low-frequency travel noise rather than total isolation, and the headphones utilize older Micro-USB charging. The Sony WH-CH700N wireless headphones offer good mixed-usage performance with above-average sound quality, a comfortable, lightweight design, and an exceptional 35-hour battery life. They feature reliable physical controls, app-based 5-band EQ customization, and a comfortable fit for long listening sessions. Conversely, the active noise cancellation (ANC) is weak and ineffective against ambient noise, and the headphones have a slow charge time of over six hours. Other drawbacks include significant sound leakage, lack of multi-device pairing, and performance that is sensitive to wearing glasses.

The SoundGuys review of the Sony WH-CH700N identifies these wireless over-ear headphones as a "just fine" budget option, praising their neutral midrange, lightweight comfort, and impressive 35-hour battery life. They are considered a strong, engaging choice for acoustic and vocal-heavy music due to their angled drivers. Conversely, the review notes significant drawbacks, including poor active noise-canceling performance that fails to block out common ambient noise. Additionally, the headphones feature a plasticky build and a default sound profile with light bass, making them less ideal for fans of hip-hop or electronic music.

The What Hi-Fi? review rates the Sony WH-CH700N wireless, noise-cancelling headphones at four out of five stars, highlighting them as an appealing budget option for everyday general use, especially at their UK price point of £100. Structurally, the headphones offer a comfortable fit with padded ear cups, weigh a lightweight 240g, and feature an understated aesthetic. The core pros emphasized in the review include a highly detailed, musical performance that is both punchy and weighty, alongside an impressive battery life of up to 35 hours (with a 10-minute quick charge providing an hour of playback). The audio relies on 40mm neodymium drivers that deliver an even, taut balance across frequencies once properly run-in. However, the headphones fall short of a perfect score due to a few notable cons. The review explicitly points out that the noise-cancelling functionality is rudimentary, acting more as "noise quietening" rather than true isolation, making them less ideal if blocking external sound is a major priority. Additionally, the reviewers note that the audio could sound more sophisticated; the treble lacks a bit of soar, vocal lines...
