Third-party reviews

Based on 1,939 buyer reviews from online shops.
Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Nikon COOLPIX L26

  • Extremely easy to use, making it ideal for beginners and children
  • Compact, lightweight, and pocketable design
  • Uses standard, easy-to-find AA batteries
  • Good color reproduction and bright images in well-lit conditions
  • Large 3.0-inch LCD screen for its price point
  • Highly affordable and budget-friendly

What we don't like about Nikon COOLPIX L26

  • Cheap, plastic build quality with a brittle feel
  • Inconsistent image quality and noticeable noise, especially at higher ISOs
  • Lack of manual controls, including the inability to override ISO speed
  • Slow overall performance and focusing speed
  • No image stabilization, leading to blurry shots in low light
  • Short battery life when using standard alkaline batteries
  • Macro mode has a limited 10cm minimum focusing distance

Verdict

The Nikon Coolpix L26 is a compact point-and-shoot featuring a 16.1-megapixel CCD sensor and a 5x optical Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens (26-130mm equivalent). It focuses on simplicity with a 3-inch LCD screen, 720p HD video recording, and a convenient power source of two AA batteries. Main pros include its highly portable lightweight design, dedicated movie record button, and Easy Auto Mode for effortless operation. However, it lacks manual exposure controls, lacks optical image stabilisation (using electronic VR instead), and suffers from slow shot-to-shot recycling times due to the AA battery power.
