The PCMag UK review awards the Insta360 X5 a 4.5/5 rating and an Editors' Choice award, highlighting its 8K video capabilities, 72MP photos, larger sensors, replaceable lenses, improved 49-foot waterproofing, and superior battery life. Priced at $549.99, the device is praised as the new market leader for 360-degree action cameras, featuring a more rugged, albeit slightly larger, design than its predecessor. While the AI-powered editing software is powerful, the review notes the apps can have a steep learning curve, requiring effort to master complex, manual reframing.

Insta360 X5 Review Summary The Insta360 X5 successfully defends its title as the top 360-degree camera by introducing vital hardware and software updates. The action camera boasts exceptional low-light capabilities—boosted by a dedicated "PureVideo" mode—and can record high-quality 8K video alongside a smooth 5.7K mode at 60fps. Built for durability, it is waterproof up to 15 metres without an external housing and features a tougher, user-replaceable lens element under the guard. It is also compatible with a reversible magnetic mounting system and an improved, safer Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0. Furthermore, its companion app includes highly responsive menus, rapid 4-second startup times, and intelligent AI-driven tracking and editing tools. Pros: Impressive low-light performance even in challenging environments like the London Underground. Superior 8K 360-degree video quality that surpasses existing market competitors. Rugged build quality featuring a tougher, DIY-replaceable glass lens. Smart gesture and voice controls including a convenient camera twist action. Cons: No resolution increase relative to the prior X4 model. Removable lens guards cost extra and are omitted from the standard camera bundle. Imperfect stitching as fine seams can...

The Insta360 X5 is an 8K action camera priced at $549.99 that features upgraded 1/1.28” dual sensors, vivid colors, and Active HDR for balanced lighting on mountain bike trails. In testing, the camera delivered exceptional video clarity and a buttery-smooth touch-screen user interface, backed by an easy-to-use phone app that simplifies 360-degree editing and exporting. Its 2400mAh battery provides a highly impressive 185 minutes of recording time and charges from zero to eighty percent in just 20 minutes. It offers extreme versatility through hands-free voice commands and a Single Lens FreeFrame Video setting that provides a wide 170-degree field of view, making it a great do-it-all single-camera setup. However, the camera has some notable drawbacks, including its added weight—weighing 201g bare and 238g with dual-lens covers and an alloy L-bracket—which makes it unfavorable and top-heavy for helmet mounting. Its wireless phone app connection also drains mobile phone batteries rapidly, and the digital wind noise filter, while decent, is not as effective as the fabric mesh design found on the Ace Pro 2. Additionally, the camera's shutter buttons lack a prominent...

The Insta360 X5 introduces significant hardware improvements over its predecessor, targeting durability and audio performance based on user feedback. The camera features a 1/1.28” image sensor that is 144% larger than the X4's, triple AI processing chips, and an upgraded battery capable of lasting up to 185 minutes with fast charging capability. It shoots up to 8K video at 30 fps, captures 72MP 360-degree photos, and boasts an IP68 waterproof rating down to 49 feet. Its most notable design upgrades include high-strength glass that is 100% more drop-resistant, user-replaceable lenses costing around $35, and a built-in physical wind guard for the microphones to improve audio quality during high-speed activities. The primary advantages of the X5 are its exceptional stabilization (FlowState and 360-degree Horizon Lock), greatly improved low-light performance via its dedicated AI-driven Pure Video Mode, and innovative shooting options like InstaFrame for simultaneous 360 and flat video capture. The mobile app is highly intuitive, offering helpful AI features like automatic reframing and subject tracking. However, the camera has notable drawbacks. Video editors using a computer will find the desktop application...

The Insta360 X5 is a robust, 200g handheld 360-degree camera that delivers high-quality 8K video at 30fps and 72MP still images using dual 1/1.28-inch sensors, two Pro imaging chips, and a dedicated AI chip. Key strengths highlighted in the review include its impressive low-light performance using the dedicated "PureVideo" mode, very strong overall still and video quality, and seamless integration with accessories like the wireless Mic Air and clip-on ND32 filters. Additionally, the camera features a larger, welcome 2.7-inch touchscreen, replaceable fisheye lenses, 15-metre waterproofing, and a powerful ecosystem of desktop and mobile editing apps that give it a major edge over competitors. However, the review notes several drawbacks, such as a slightly higher operational complexity compared to earlier single-button models and a touchscreen that can feel oversensitive for users with larger hands. The automatic shooting mode occasionally over-brightens scenes, necessitating manual adjustments, though true long exposures are restricted to just one second unless using the specialized Starlapse mode. Furthermore, while the standard profile is reliable, the flat 8-bit video profile was less consistent, and actual still image file sizes...

The Bike Gremlin review highlights the Insta360 X5 as a powerful 8K 360-degree camera featuring dual 1/1.28-inch sensors, a triple AI chip system for improved low-light performance, and a robust 185-minute battery life. Key advantages include user-replaceable, scratch-resistant lens guards and the Fast Charge Case that utilizes Power Delivery to charge batteries quickly. However, the analysis notes significant limitations, such as fast overheating when shooting at the maximum 8K resolution. Additionally, the review points out a notable loss of resolution when cropping 360-degree footage and a lack of optical zoom, making it less ideal for high-speed action or distant subjects.

The Insta360 X5 is a highly capable 360-degree camera that stands out as the most beginner-friendly and compelling option on the market, earning a strong 9/10 review rating. Its standout upgrade is the introduction of twin 1/1.28-inch sensors, which provide a massive jump in detail, highlight retention, and dynamic range compared to its predecessor's smaller sensors. Key pros include user-replaceable lenses that cost just $30 to fix, an exceptional PureVideo low-light mode, an improved microphone windscreen cover that significantly reduces wind noise under 15 MPH, and a handy magnetic quick-release mounting system. Additionally, it features upgraded battery life capable of recording continuous 80-minute 8K clips without overheating issues. However, the camera does come with several cons and limitations. It is more expensive than the X4, retailing around $435 to $550, and its physical redesign means existing X4 accessories, cases, and batteries are completely incompatible. From a software standpoint, it lacks 8K log video support—limiting its I-LOG recording mode to lower-resolution 5.7K footage—and its automated "InstaFrame" tracking mode unnecessarily degrades output resolution to 1080p. Furthermore, while the upgraded audio performs well...

The Insta360 X5 retains its spot at the top of the consumer 360-degree camera market by introducing critical physical upgrades, most notably user-replaceable lenses that offer immense peace of mind against expensive accidental damage. Priced at $435, it features a 2.7-inch touchscreen, dual 1/1.28-inch sensors (44% larger than its predecessor), a 2,400-mAh battery, and waterproofing up to 49 feet. The camera offers excellent day-time image quality, an intuitive editing app, and helpful new modes like PureVideo for cleaner low-light recordings and InstaFrame, which automatically outputs a shareable, cropped 1080p video alongside the full 360-degree file. However, despite these hardware upgrades, the X5 shares the exact same spherical 8K30 video and 72-megapixel photo resolutions as the older X4, resulting in nearly identical image quality under standard daytime lighting. Key disadvantages include its expensive price tag—running roughly 30% or $125 higher than the X4—and the steep learning curve of its highly feature-dense app. Furthermore, Android users face editing limitations for 72-megapixel images, and low-light video performance still suffers from artifacts and motion blur despite the PureVideo enhancements.

The Insta360 X5 is a highly versatile 360-degree action camera that delivers exceptional image and audio quality, driven by dual 1/1.28-inch sensors—a 144% increase in size over its predecessor. It upgrades video recording to a crisp 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, powered by a triple AI chip system that significantly boosts flow-state stabilization and introduces the impressive AI-supported Purevideo mode for superior low-light noise reduction. Designed for harsh action environments, the camera is waterproof up to 15 metres, features an innovative interchangeable lens system for quick damage replacement, and introduces user-friendly functions like "Twist to Shoot" via the selfie stick alongside gesture and voice controls. The reviewer highlights several distinct advantages and disadvantages of the device. The pros include excellent overall video and sound quality, smooth operation via a large 5.3 x 3.4-centimetre touchscreen, reliable gesture control, and access to an extensive ecosystem of accessories like remote controls and motorbike mounts. On the downside, the cons focus on technical and software limitations: the camera's new Instaframe mode—which simultaneously outputs a ready-to-share flat video alongside the 360-degree file—is strictly...

The Insta360 X5 is a best-in-class 360-degree action camera that introduces major hardware upgrades over its predecessor, the X4. The most significant enhancement is the integration of twin 1/1.28-inch image sensors, which are 144% larger than those on the previous model. Supported by a trio of AI processing chips, these sensors dramatically boost image quality, wide dynamic range, and noise reduction. The review highlights several core pros and cons of the system. On the positive side, the camera delivers superior video quality across all conditions, enhanced internal microphone audio with built-in wind mufflers, and the major cost-saving convenience of easily swappable lenses. It also features rapid charging that powers the battery to 80% in just 20 minutes. Conversely, the cons include a fast-draining battery—especially when heavily recording at the maximum 8K resolution—and...

The Insta360 X5 is a premium 360-degree action camera praised for its bright, vivid, and highly detailed imagery, powered by dual 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensors. Its standout feature is the ability to capture an entire scene at once in 8K resolution at 30fps, giving users incredible shooting versatility. Vloggers and travel creators can easily reframe shots, introduce simulated camera panning using keyframes, and extract multiple unique angles from a single raw file post-capture. Additional pros include an improved 15-metre waterproofing capability straight out of the box, highly effective automated image stabilisation, a responsive 2.7-inch touchscreen, and a streamlined mobile and desktop editing application. Despite its impressive performance, the camera has notable downsides. Priced at approximately $465 / £425, the X5 is significantly more expensive than standard competitors like the GoPro Hero 13 Black or DJI Osmo Action 6. It is only deemed worth the extra investment if creators intend to fully exploit its 360-degree capabilities. Furthermore, editing high-resolution 8K video demands substantial computer processing power, which can lead to software stuttering. The desktop companion software also lacks basic functionalities, such as...

The Insta360 X5 is a flagship 8K 360-degree action camera praised for its ability to capture entire surroundings simultaneously, allowing creators to reframe footage into 16:9 or 9:16 aspect ratios during post-production. It features dual 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensors—which are 144% larger than its predecessor's—offering crisp image quality and improved low-light capabilities, especially when utilising the dedicated PureVideo noise-reduction mode. Key design upgrades include rugged, user-replaceable lenses, an impressive 6-axis FlowState image stabilisation system with Horizon Lock, and a robust IP68 waterproof rating down to 15 metres. The camera also boasts seamless integration with the ultra-lightweight Insta360 Mic Air wireless lapel microphone for high-quality, dual-track spatial audio, and has an RRP of $929.99 for the standard bundle or $1,109.99 for the accessory-rich Essentials Bundle. The review highlights several pros and cons regarding the camera's overall utility. On the positive side, its compact 200g build, "invisible selfie stick" tracking software effect, and multi-battery fast-charging case make it a highly versatile, nimble tool for solo content creators covering live events and action sports. However, the camera has notable workflow and performance limitations. Users...

The Insta360 X5 is a significant, highly capable upgrade over the X4, featuring larger 1/1.28” dual sensors and dual 'Pro Imaging' chips that greatly enhance both daytime clarity and low-light PureVideo performance. Its most groundbreaking feature for motorcycle riders is the introduction of user-replaceable lenses, which cost just £34.99 per kit and eliminate the risk of a minor scratch permanently ruining the expensive camera. Additional strengths include a strong default wind noise control system and compatibility with premium accessories like highly effective physical ND filters and a GPS Preview Remote. On the downside, the camera is a sizable financial investment at £519.99 ($549.99 USD) and requires different, slower-charging batteries than previous models, making older X4 accessories incompatible. Users cannot film in the "I-Log" flat color profile at resolutions above 5.7K, and the camera requires a phone with 5GHz Wi-Fi capabilities for the mandatory initial activation and firmware updates, excluding some older smartphones. Furthermore, the stitching line can occasionally distort objects placed too close to the sides, and using the highly praised ND filters slightly compromises the precision of the stitching...

The Insta360 X5 is lauded by 220 Triathlon as an industry-leading, premium action camera capable of 8K/30fps 360-degree footage, allowing for high-resolution, versatile post-production framing. Key strengths include an improved 208-minute battery life, user-replaceable lenses, and enhanced audio quality. 220 Triathlon However, the review notes that the 7oz (200g) unit is relatively heavy, and single-lens mode is limited to 4K/60fps rather than 8K. Additionally, the base package includes no accessories, requiring further investment for mounts, and the high price point reflects its premium status.

The Insta360 X5 remains a highly recommended 360 camera one year after its launch, valued primarily as a versatile, complete package for creative travel videography rather than for absolute pixel sharpness. Key advantages highlighted in the review include its dual 1/1.28-inch sensors and "PureVideo" low-light mode, which noticeably improve night-time city captures. A major design triumph is the introduction of fully user-replaceable lenses, drastically lowering the real-world anxiety of scratching the camera during action sports or travel. Furthermore, its superior software ecosystem—comprising mobile and desktop apps alongside features like InstaFrame for zero-edit clips—makes the overall reframing and editing workflow fast and accessible compared to competitors.

The Insta360 X5 offers several notable hardware upgrades, most significantly featuring a fully replaceable lens design with anti-scratch glass that enables quick field repairs without compromising image quality. It provides superior highlight retention, clean shadows, and stable FlowState stabilization when mounted on drones or filming in chaotic environments. Its heat management is highly efficient, lasting 86 minutes in direct sunlight without overheating, and its new steel mesh wind guard effectively minimizes wind noise for motorsports vlogging. Software integration with Insta360 Studio is a major benefit, introducing AI Stitching via the Stitch Fusion Angle tool to clean up close-up stitch lines, a Tilt Restore feature to preserve natural camera angles, and seamless immersive video export options optimized for Apple Vision Pro playback. However, the camera falls short in several areas and may feel like a rushed release for some users. Its marketed 5.7K 60fps "HDR" mode is misleading, operating strictly within 8-bit color rather than true 10-bit HDR. The PureVideo AI processing struggles during rapid lighting transitions—such as under music festival strobe lights—causing heavy banding and digital noise around highlights. For...
