What customers don't like about Unihertz 8849 Tank Pad 4G (12GB + 512GB)

  • Significant weight (approx. 1.25 kg) makes it cumbersome for long-term handheld use or light travel.
  • Projector brightness is limited to 100 lumens, requiring a nearly completely dark room for a clear image.
  • Poor software support with infrequent security updates and an OS UI that feels unoptimized for a tablet.
  • Mediocre speaker quality that lacks depth and only provides stereo sound in portrait orientation.
  • Lack of Widevine L1 encryption limits most paid streaming services (like Netflix) to 480p resolution.
  • Inaccurate and wobbly fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.

Verdict

The Unihertz 8849 Tank Pad E is a high-performance 4G rugged tablet powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor, featuring 12GB of physical LPDDR4X RAM (expandable via 12GB of virtual memory) and 512GB of UFS storage that supports up to 2TB via microSD. It is defined by its 10.95-inch FHD+ 120Hz display with 700 nits of brightness and a unique built-in 100-lumen DLP projector (854x480 resolution) with manual focus. Its standout characteristic is a massive 21,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging and reverse charging support, housed in an IP68-rated waterproof and drop-resistant body that includes an 800-lumen camping light and a 50MP Sony IMX766 main camera. While offering exceptional durability and multi-day battery life, the device is notably heavy at 1120g and thick at 19.4mm, and its projector resolution is relatively low for professional high-definition cinematic use.
